The Diary of Mary Barkei MarlerWorld War IIBy Elena Reese

September 1, 1939: Today Germany invaded Poland.
Everyone was buzzing about it because World War 2
had officially began in Europe. This journal will help me
keep up to date about the war. Hopefully America
won't get involved.

September 3, 1939: Great Britain and France
declared war on Germany. American has no
involvement whatsoever in this war yet.

September 7, 1939:
Today my papa told me
he thought Hitler was
up to no good. Me and
momma laughed at
him. This man was the
cover of Time
magazine! I mean,
what could he do that
was no good?

September 27, 1939: The Soviet Union and
Germany are allies now due to the German-Soviet
nonaggression pact. The Soviet Union invaded Poland
from the East. Poland surrendered and it was divided
between both Germany and The Soviet Union.

June 22, 1940: Germany and Soviet Russia have
invaded Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Western
Europe. And now even Italy has joined the war
and invaded Southern France! I have a bad
feeling America wont be able to stay neutral the
entire war.

July 23, 1940: Right now an air war called the Battle
of Brittan is taking place. It's between Brittan and
Germany. I think Hitler needs to be defeated. He has
attacked many other countries for little to no reason.

October 31, 1940: The Battle of Brittan has ended in
defeat for Germany. No one was sure who would win
because the technology and the numbers were about
the same, but since it was on British land they had
something to really fight for.

November 30, 1940: The three main axis powers are
Germany, italy, and Japan. They signed back in
September, but now Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania
join the axis.

November 29th, 1940: The Germans broke the
Nonaggression Pact with The Soviet Union, but the
cold weather and the amount of land Soviet Russia
had the Germans could not defeat the Soviets.

December 6, 1941: America has been trying to
negotiate with Japan. They are very upset we
stopped giving them oil. But today, they left without
negotiation anything.

December 8, 1941: Japan bombed Pearl Harbor
today. It was horrific. We are probably going to go to
war. If we have to go to war, my brother will have to
go. I am scared for what is coming.

December 13, 1941:
America has declared war
on Japan and Germany and
its axis parties have
declared war on us. We
went from neutral to a
main part of this war. If
Japan has already bombed
us once, why wouldn't they
bomb us again? Last year
the Selective Service Act
was put into place. My
brother, George, wanted to
register. However, he was
too young. He will be old
enough in less than a year.
