When I was in my village, I went for a walk with my brother in the fields nearby. There I found a beautiful flower about 7 cm high and 4 cm wide. It looked like a cone and it had light pink petals.
I found out that its common name is chonaki (‘honaki’), its scientific name is Convolvulus elegantissimus Mill. and it is a bindweed that is widespread in the Greek fields.
Τhis flower is called anemoni and its name comes from the Greek word for 'windflower.' I found it in my village when I was walking with my brother and my cousins.
It is fuchia with dark purple stamens in the middle but you can find it in many colours, red, pink, white or ciel. It is a perennial plant. In Greece, it is sometimes used for perfumes.
The wild flower mandrake belongs to the nightshade family. We can find mandrakes mostly in southern Europe, Middle East, and northern Africa, that is in the Mediterranean region. An interesting fact about mandrakes is that their roots usually look like a woman or a man.
Sometimes if you take it off the ground, it starts screaming so loud that it could kill anyone who hears it. Oh, wait a minute! This is from Harry Potter.
One day, while I was walking with my friends in the fields close to my village, I saw a wild flower named thistle. It was very beautiful and extraordinary. It had thin lively pink petals, big green spiny leaves, and the plant was very tall.
The thistle is annual or biennial plant that can grow to be 30 to 200 cm. Its leaves are with spiny edges.
Wild mallow or Malva sylvestris
by Thanos
In my Easter holiday, I was walking in my village when I saw a beautiful tall plant with purple flowers on it. I found out its name on the internet and read about it on i-naturalist.
It is a perennial wild plant called “Wild Mallow” reaching a height of about 120 cm, with branching and hairy shoots. Its leaves are circular, toothed, lobed and hairy. The flowers are fuchia, with five petals and it grows almost everywhere, in fields but also on the roadside, in dry and sunny places. That's why it is so common in Greece!
