VISIT TO OLD TALLINN

May 17th, First Day In Jõhvi Gümnaasium
Today I woke up at 7 o’clock. I had breakfast with my host family. We went to Jöhvi Gymnasium.The teachers showed us inside the school. A student and Airika teacher made a presentation to us about their school. School was so beautiful and everything was so technological. After the presentation we went to Jöhvi Basic School and ate lunch there. After lunch we went to

Toila Park. The students explained the park and told us about the history. Then we went to a waterfall. We took some pictures there. We went back to the school and my host family picked me up. We went to a beach
and some castles with my host family.

Discovering Jõhvi Gümnaasium
I woke up at 07.15 am. We had breakfast with Galina and Romas. Then I started to get ready for go to the Jõhvi Gymnasium. We walked to the school with Romas. When we arrived, teacher Airika welcomed us. After that she and her student Ott-Marti presented and showed their school to us. I loved that their school has lots of useful stuff. Like computers and sitting areas. Also I loved their stadium and terrace. We went to Jõhvi Russian Basic School, we ate lunch there. I loved fish soup. Airika teacher took us to National Park Toila. We did walking tour while Galina's students were presenting the park. They explained lots of historical places, poems and legends. I took pleasure in them.

After that Airika teacher took us to the Kohtla-Järve to see the waterfall. Then I met with my host family. We came home and ate dinner. Then we went to the mall and bought something. After that we went to monastery and Galina teacher told lots of things about it during the way. I learned so many things about Estonia.

This morning, I woke up at 7:10 AM. Galina teacher drove me and Elizaveta to school. At 9 AM, we went to Airika teacher's classroom. There, her student Ott-Marti had a presentation about the school and country. They gave us a tour of the school. Apparently, Jõhvi Gymnasium is a unique school in Estonia. It is built in a sphere shape

with an amphitheater-like sitting area in the center. Airika teacher told us more about the Estonian education system. The duration of a class is 70 minutes. Airika teacher told us more about the Estonian education system. In universities, lessons are 90 minutes so they are aiming to prepare their students for the university.
There was a wall with quotes from the graduates of the school. They had tablet and laptop carts to which only the teachers have access. Airika teacher said that they are given out to the students for certain classes. After that, we went to Galina teacher's Basic School for lunch. Once we had finished eating, some of Galina teacher's students showed us around Toila Park. The view was stunning. They also told us about the history and legends of the park. Apparently, when someone crosses the river by stepping on the stones, it heals them. We also touched a big rock and made a wish. The park and palace were built by Grigori Jelissejev in 1901. In the palace's place, there now stands a school! It has a view of the Baltic Sea. Lastly, we went through the "Witch Forest".

After the excursion in Toila, Airika teacher took us to a waterfall in Kohtla-Järve. It was so beautiful, and there were different layers in the cliff.

May 18th, Wednesday

Learning google sheets and google sites
Today I wake up at 6.45 a.m. We had breakfast and went to school. In school Airika teacher showed us how to use google sites and google sheets. We worked on that for a while. We made our own websites from google sites. It was so fun and useful. She also showed us their e-school and told us about the education system.

That was very interesting. Their system is very practical and modern. We ate lunch in the cafeteria and then we went to a sea side. We walked a bit and after we went to Narva Museum. The museum was so good. We saw some castles and I bought a key holder as a souvenir. We also went to an old church.

I woke up at 07.25 am. we went to school and teacher Airika explained that how to use Google Sites and we made our websites. Also Airika teacher taught us to use Google Sheet and how to make translate with it. Then Airika teacher told that weather was good for making a QR code tour and discover Jõhvi. After that we started to walked arround according to the app. It was a joyfull activity and we found out more about the history of Jõhvi. Then we came back to school and ate lunch. We went to Sillamäe and walk arround there. Then we went to Narva and visited to Narva Museum. Narva Castle had a fascinating atmosphere.

This morning, I woke up at 7:20 AM. We took the bus to school with Elizaveta. For our first activity, Airika teacher showed us Google Sites and we started making a site about our trip. She also showed us how to translate words and phrases via Google Sheets. It was such a useful feature!

Apparently, every language has a code. For example, English is “en”, Estonian is “ee”, and Turkish is “tr”. Airika teacher said that the weather might be very cold on Friday, so she gave us the QR tour today instead.
We used an app called Actionbound. It was so fun, and we got to know Jõhvi better. After the tour, we ate lunch at Jõhvi Gymnasium. After lunch, Airika teacher drove us to Sillämae. She and her student, Ott-Marti showed us the promenade and the walkway by the sea. The town was very quiet. Otti said that people used to avoid Sillamäe because of uranium production. After the excursion in SIllamae, we went to Narva Castle, on the Estonian-Russian border. It was as if we were in the set of a movie. We could also see the Russian fortress on the other side of the river. Otti said that a movie called “The Pharmacist” was recently shot there. Airika and Otti were great guides. Overall, it was such a fun day!

Today I woke up at 7 a.m. we went to the school and we played an escape room game. There were some tasks and problems that we had to solve. It was so much fun. The school uses technology in a very funny and educational way. We made our presentations

I woke up at 07.20 am. We went to school. We tried to play online escape room game. It was a great experience for me. That game showed me we can use internet at education effectively way. Then we went to Jõhvi Russian Basic School and we attended a presentation. Then they showed their school to us. I loved their swimming pool and also their workshops. We made a presentation to the Jöhvi Gümnaasium students about Atatürk, Turkey and our reading group activity. After that we went to a mall and bought some stuff for making Estonian dish. We prepared couple of foods and left them at school because they had to get cool. It was a great day for me.

This morning, I woke up at 7:30 AM. When we got to school, Airika teacher sent us a link for an escape room. The concept was that we had to complete 8 food-related tasks to get out of the kitchen. tour of the school. It was so cool - there was even a swimming pool! A class of little kids sang songs for us in Estonian, Russian and Turkish! It was the cutest. When we got back to Jõhvi Gymnasium, we made our presentations about Turkey, Atatürk and Anna Karenina. We also decided to have an online presentation for it when we
return to Turkey. Later, we went shopping for ingredients to make Estonian foods with two students from the school. Then, we prepared the foods in the school cafetaria. However, they all had to be frozen or cooked, so we are going to taste them tomorrow when they are ready. .

LET'S COOK ESTONIAN FOOD
Today I woke up at 6.30 a.m. I had breakfast with my family and we went to the school. Elizabeth (my host family’s daughter) didn’t come to school because the 12th Graders had an exam. Other grades did online school. In school Airika teacher showed us how to make a website and together with her help we could create a website about our Erasmus + project. We filled a form about the programme, school and Estonia. They gave us a certificate and some gifts. We took some pictures with the teachers and the headmaster of the gümnaasium. I leaned a lot about their educational system and it is very disciplined and very helpful for students.

Today was our last day at Jõhvi. I felt sad about that because I loved that city. I woke up at 07.25 am. Then I got ready and took my suitcases. We arrived to school and finished our websites. After that we had a coffee break and we tried Estonian foods that we cooked yesterday. I loved caramelly one. Then headmaster gave us our certificates and we took a couple of pictures with her. Then we said thanks and goodbye everyone in there. It was a magnificent experience for me. I am glad that to be there. I hope we will meet again.

This morning, I woke up at 7:10 AM. I got my suitcase ready and we took the bus to school with Elizaveta. She had online school that day so she returned home after dropping me off. We completed our site from Wednesday and added some more photos about our project. After that, we finally got to taste the foods we prepared yesterday. They were tasty. Then, we had lunch. After lunch, the principal of the school gave us our certificates. She also gave us a bag with a box of chocolate. We took photos. That was our last activity for the program! We said goodbye to Airika teacher and everyone at Jõhvi Gymnasium and Galina teacher and her husband drove us to Tallinn to stay at our hotel.
