Dedicated to that one kid who stole my wallet
- Shannon Duldulao

It was Omar's mom's birthday tomorrow and he was so excited to give her a nice gift. As he was walking to the convenience store 6 blocks away, he realized that he only had $8.43. A $15.00 necklace displayed in the front window.
Omar was born into a poor family who lived in an old house with broken ceilings, walls, and furniture. His mother was unemployed, and they were running out of money.

As he was looking through the store, hoping to find something cheaper to buy, he saw a man rattled, freaking out. This man approaches the front counter and says,
“Sir, I lost my wallet! It's somewhere in the store and I can’t find it.”
The counter replied “ I checked the camera footage when you walked in and I did not see your wallet falling out of your bag or pockets.”
“But I know it’s somewhere here. It's green with white stripes!” the man yells.

“Sir, I lost my wallet! It's somewhere in the store and I can’t find it.”

Omar was intrigued by this conversation but nevertheless, he did not care about this stranger and as he stepped outside the store, there was a wallet lying on the ground. As the man stated, It was green with white stripes, and he realized that this was the man’s wallet. He picked it up without no one noticing and Inside the wallet was $40. He knew he could buy the necklace with that money.
They both glanced at each other and the man asked Omar
“Have you seen a wallet around this area? I seem to have lost it.”
Omar lies and says “ No, I have not seen any wallets.”
He knew that if he gave back the man’s wallet, he would not be able to buy his mom a nice necklace. He goes back to the store and buys the necklace. The next day, he surprises his mom with a gift.

“Hey mom, Happy birthday! I got you a present” he said.
“ Ahh, thank you Omar.” She replies “But where did you get this money from?.”
“I saved for it obviously.” He lies again and as he turns around to walk back to his room, the wallet in Omar’s pocket falls on the floor. Omar’s mom picks it up and she looks very upset. “Where did you find this wallet?”

im sorry
she asks. Omar could not lie anymore and told her the truth, “I found it yesterday on the floor and it belonged to a man I met the same day.” His mom put her hands on his shoulder and said “go back to the store and return the necklace , find the man and return the wallet. I know you wanted to buy me a necklace but you shouldn’t steal as it will lead to very bad consequences.”
