Dedicated to the Backrooms Lore - an urban legend about another dimension. I took inspiration from this lore.

With a loud bang, the doorframe lit up with a strange white light, blinding the crew and deafening a few of the employees to death. The doorframe leading to a wall was leading to a maze of mono-yellow colored corridors and rooms. Ivan Beck rose from his seat, with his hands on the desk, and, dumbfounded, looked into the door...
"MIKE!".
Mike jumped with a start at his desk. "Mike". He looked up only to see Ms. Kleidian, the homeroom teacher, coldly look at him, her eyes focused on Mike's soul. "Mike... if I find you daydreaming ONE MORE TIME...", Ms. Kleidian said calmly but coldly, "You will receive a suspension.
Mike realized with terror that he had fallen asleep during class. "Y-yes, Ms. Kleidian", he muttered. "Students", Ms. Kleidian announced, "Your future job requires absolute attention and discipline. You can't just fall asleep in class. What happens if you fall asleep in the Backrooms? The first entity will do something bad to you!".
Everyone stared at Ms. Kleidian without saying a word, in an eerie silence. "Mike", Ms. Kleidian looked at Mike again, "You are NOT allowed to fall asleep in class. None of you are allowed". The teacher stared at her students for a while, then went back to the review for the upcoming test.
Mike understood he was not allowed to fall asleep, but he couldn't help it. This was just his nature, and he could do nothing about it.
Oh yeah, you're probably wondering about what the talk is about. Oh, I'm very sorry, I forgot to give you a backstory! How dare I! Okay, here's a little backstory...
Chapter 1
Have You Heard of the Backrooms?
Okay, probably not. I understand! And, tell you what, it's all secret information! Information only YOU, young (or maybe not too young) reader have to know.
So Mike is a normal young man. He is turning eleven this fall; he loves strawberry ice cream, goes kayaking with his dad on Sundays, and has a few best friends, with which he could talk about the same thing for HOURS.
But there's one more thing about Mike I BET you won't realize from the first look.
If you walk with Mike to his house, he will definitely not allow you to do it. Nobody needs to know where he is ACTUALLY going after school. But I'll tell you: he rides his bike for fifteen minutes or so to a very old cottage in the middle of NOWHERE. He parks his bike on an old bike stand and knocks on the door in a secret Morse code. Then, a young lady, about twenty years older than him, which happens to be Aura Kleidian (how's that for a name), takes him inside, and leads him to an elevator. He steps inside this very elevator and goes down into a secret, underground school.
Now, you may be asking "So, what do you learn there? Math? Science? Arts?". Nope. Not even close.
They learn about the Backrooms.
Now, again, you probably don't know about the Backrooms, which is unfortunate. As the first explorer of the Backrooms, back in 1990, stated: "If you are not careful enough, and you no-clip in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms".
The Backrooms represents a maze of randomly-segmented corridors, rooms, hallways, and offices. They all are painted in this odd, mono-yellow colour that makes you nauseate a lot. The floor is covered with a darker, but equally disgusting, brown-ish colour, which, by the way, is dirty and moist from stain. The last characteristic of this place are equally placed fluorescent lights which loudly and annoyingly buzz, creating a very ambient noise to the Backrooms.
Now, you may be asking: "Well, where is this place?". AND THAT"S THE THING: it's does not exist (in our world)! To enter the Backrooms, you need to know a little bit from the Quark-Distillation, Quantum, Optical, and Expo-curvature sciences. Just for a heads-up, it took scientists of a secret company "Async" eight years (eight goddamn years!) to break through space and time, endure the four states of matter in less than a second, create a powerful light beam to transmit light particles faster than their own speed, and fall into EXACTLY the right dimension, all in one go. That is how scientists opened a "door" to the Backrooms.
When scientists broke through into the Backrooms, they started going from one dimension to another!
After eleven years of carefully exploring and obstructing the Backrooms, a guidebook was created by Wesley Pitsbrough - the main scientist studying the Backrooms. This book was obviously not published, but it was very well-wrote and really self-explanatory.
Fifteen years after the "creation" of the portal between our dimension and KV31, scientists realized that the Backrooms could later solve overpopulation. Living here would not be a problem, since this dimension consists of multiple "levels" - each unique from one another.
To solve overpopulation, a big act was held.
The "Act of Exploration, Discovery and Solution" stated that chosen kids from America and Canada were taken and studied everything about the Backrooms for several years until teenagerhood, after which they were sent to work in constructing laboratories, buildings and tolls around the Backrooms, as well as exploring further into them. This would make solving overpopulation more efficient and quick.
Now, for a kid to get chosen for such a school is a huge deal. A kid needs to have certain strengths relevant for this job - such as high discipline, undamaged sight and hearing, high concentration, IQ higher than 30, and no phobias.
Now, you may be asking, "Well, how come Mike is in, if his concentration is CLEARLY low?".
Mike's concentration is NOWHERE near low. His concentration is extremely high, one of the highest in his class.
Chapter 2
Mike's weird memories
The problem with Mike is that, for some unexplainable reason, he constantly gets incredibly weird flashbacks which even he himself can't explain.
He might be at a practice alert with his class, practicing and reviewing what happens in case something happens with the gates, and the whole threshold air starts becoming to vacuum. And just as a practice, the teacher pulls a fake alarm and the room becomes glowing with red light and a loud American siren. All the students fill with adrenaline, preparing to fall to the ground and scream.
But not Mike. All of a sudden, looking at this drill, a flashback of a monster running into the real world and multiple people dying appears.
Not even he could explain these flashbacks. He has never seen these flashbacks himself. Moreover, when he describes them to his teacher, she just looks at Mike like he is mentally unstable and says that, of course, this has never happened in the history of the Backrooms exploration.
These flashbacks randomly pop in his head, and often don't allow him to concentrate on the work given.
As you probably understand by now, this is all a great mystery. A mystery never to be unraveled...
Chapter 3
the trip to middle base
Alright, back to the story.
After practicing for the review, an announcement came from the P.A. :
"Attention-attention, may we have your attention please? Can we have Classes 4, 5, and 6 arrive to the Backrooms Middle Base, please? Thank you!"
The students' excitement grew, since they were Class 4, or Grade 4! That meant a trip to another dimension. And when Ms. Kleidian told everyone to stand up and go out the classroom single-file, everyone
Everyone quickly became a line and ran out of the classroom, along the corridor, through three different staircases, and came up to a room closed with heavy anti-radiation doors. Above them said "Closet". Every student, including the teacher, dressed in large and bulky hazmat suits, complete with a gas mask, three layers of clothing and a yellow protective cover on top of that. It was so bulky it was even hard to breathe.
With the suits on, the students went through multiple doors and corridors, only to come up to a door with text above it: "KV-31 threshold room". Below it was a sign: "Any entrance to the room or through the room MUST be supervised at all times and with no exceptions". The teacher opened the door.
