"Daddy I have always wondered. What have
the people that look like me done? The woman
at the store said we haven't done anything to
benefit the world!" says Alyssa.

"The woman at the store must not know of all
of the great African-Americans that have
helped out! We will have a talk about it when
we get home." says Daddy.

"Ever heard of Austin Dabney?" asks Dad. "Austin
Dabney was black like you! He helped Georgia
fight the british soldiers in the Revolutionary
War!" exclaims Dad.

"Seriously Daddy! That is so cool! Tell me more" says
Alyssa.
"I'll tell you tomorrow Alyssa. Goodnight." says Dad

"Okay I promised you I'd tell you more about
your history, Henry Mcneal Turner was the first
Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal
Church located in Georgia." Dad tell Alyssa.

"Since you have been good today, I'll tell you
another!" says Dad. "W.E.B. Dubois belived people
like me and you should be educated! He also
helped found the NAACP!" exclaims Dad.

"Guess what Alyssa?" asks Dad. "I have another
famous black person that had a big role in history!
Booker T. Washington was an educator that is well
known for his "Atlanta Compromise Speech". He
believed that blacks should take up a trade like
farming.

"Alonzo Herndon was a business man like me!" Dad tells
Alyssa. "Really Dad? How cool!" says Alyssa. "Herndon
was a businessman that started off as a barber until he
created the Atlanta Family Life Insurance Company!"
says Dad.

"Do you want to learn about some more people
today?" asks Dad. "Of course Dad!" exclaims Alyssa."
"John and Lugenia Burns Hope were two people that
have done great things in Ga" says Dad. "Lugenia
Burns Hope was the first vice president of the NAACP."
continues Dad. " Her husband John Hope was the first
black president of both Morehouse college and Clark
University. Hope contributed to the NAACP and worked
as a civil rights activist.

"Benjamin Mays was a mentor to MLK Jr. He also
was a long term president of Morehouse college."
explains Dad. "Dad doesn't Johnny go to Benjamin
Mays high school?" asks Alyssa. "Yes! He does go
