THE

TIME TRAVELERS

One summer, Jem and Scout were exploring 

the woods in their town when they found 

something amazing. 

      Jem shouted, "It's a time machine!"

The kids decided that they would use the time 

machine to explore times in the past and the 

future.

One day, Jem and Scout traveled back to the time of 

the Vikings.   There, they meet a horrible old lady 

named Mrs. Dubose.   Mrs. Dubose yelled at the 

children because she did not like something that their 

dad did, even though she was not involved. Finally, 

Jem had had enough. He fired cannonballs at her ship, 

putting holes in the sail. The kid's dad was very upset 

with Jem, and made him read to Mrs. Dubose every 

day. Over time, her boat floated away, but before she 

left, she gave Jem a box as a gift. In the box was a 

piece of her sail. While Jem did not want the gift at 

first, his dad told him to be greatful, and that Mrs. 

Dubose liked having him read to her. The children 

realized even though Mrs. Dubose seemed mean, she 

was really nice on the inside.

One day Jem and Scout traveled back into ancient 

Egyptian times. They began talking to people and 

learned that they were very unhappy with their new 

Queen Caro-Lizard.

      "She is the worst Queen we have ever had. We are 

going to steal the throne from her!" Exclaimed one 

Egyptian.  

      "No you don't want to do that!" said Jem. 

      "We have to she doesn't understand us, she is 

terrible" yelled back the Egyptian.  

Jem and Scout went and found Caro-Lizard and 

explained to her that her people were mad at her. 

       "I am aware they are mad. I am trying my best it is 

hard to please everyone and I am still learning how to 

be a good Queen." said Caro-Lizard.

       "It must be hard trying to please everyone and help 

everyone out." said Scout.

       "It is impossible and since I just became Queen I do 

not know much about the people and what they like!" 

exclaimed Caro-Lizard.

Jem and Scout ran off to talk to the people of Egypt and 

explain Caro-Lizard's situation to them. 

Jem and Scout rounded up all the Egyptians in the town 

square and Jem began to explain to them, 

       "Caro-Lizard is trying her best to be your Queen. She has 

just become Queen and needs some time to adjust"

Scout added, 

       "Look at the situation as if you were in Caro-Lizard's 

sandals, she does not know all of you or how you think or 

feel. Just like you would not know everyone if you were the 

ruler. It is hard to be the leader and you guys need to respect 

Caro-Lizard because she is trying." 

After a few moments of silence the people began to nod their 

heads in agreement

      "Now that I see it from the Queen's position I 

understand." said an Egyptian. 

Jem and Scout had saved all of Egypt by teaching the 

Egyptian people how to respect each other and listen to each 

other.

After visiting Egypt, Jem and Scout decided to 

visit ancient China. When they arrived, the 

children went and visited the emperor, 

Emperor Calpurnia. When Calpurnia saw the 

kids, she quickly invited them into the village, 

saying “All are welcome in the village of 

Maycomb.”

      Just before supper was about to be served, 

a hungry, dirty panda walked up to Calpurnia 

and the children. Scout started to scare the 

panda away, but Emperor Calpurnia stopper 

her. 

     “You can’t judge a creature by what you 

see on the outside. You have to think about 

who they are on the inside,” she said.

     After hearing this, Scout stopped trying to 

scare the panda and the children ate dinner 

with Calpurnia and the panda.
