Have you every thrown something on the ground just because
you did not feel like walking to the trash can after finishing your
food? Well, your not alone. Almost everybody has done that at
least once. The truth is, it's not good for the Earth and the
animals and humans who depend on this planet. This is because
when you carelessly throw that little piece of trash on the ground,
it flies away to another place somewhere on Earth when you
think it just disappears. Some healthy habits you can develop is
not buying a new water bottle and just drink from a water
fountain. You can also bring your own bag to a shopping center
and refrain from using plastic bags, and buying new water
bottles. Here is a story of how one person can make a difference.

This is John, he is going to find out how much of a
difference he can make by setting a wonderful example
for all of his friends, family, and community.
First off, John does not really think about all the R's,
reduce, reuse, and recycle. He also does not know much
about composting. In this book , john will be showing
you how to do all those things and will also be learning a
huge lesson along the way which will help the Earth a
whole lot.

You should not do that John.
But why?
One day, John was eating a piece of candy while walking
along the city streets. When he was finished with his
treat, he left the wrapper on the ground. When his
teacher saw this, she told John that he should not do
that. John asked,"But why? All I did was throw it on the
ground, it will fly away out of my life and I won't have to
worry about it." The teacher, Mrs.Collins told John that it
does not just disappear, it flies away to somewhere else
where maybe, an animal might eat it and choke. Mrs.
Collins said that she would talk about littering tomorrow
in class.

In class the next day, Mrs. Collins explained that
throughout the week , she will be explaining how we
can help save the Earth. Today she explained the three
R's.
Reduce,
Reuse,
And Recycle.
She explained that in order to reduce, you minimize the amount
of waste products you use like plastic. To reuse, you take a item
that could be thrown away like plastic water bottles and refill
them and use them again. To recycle, you take unwanted items
you would regularly throw away and place them in a blue bin in
your classroom with a sign like this:
The products placed in this bin will
be melted and turned into something
else. Like a new water bottle.
