Sarah lived in the jungle with her family. Her sister Alexis, her mom
Cynthia, and her dad Eric all lived in a little hut. Everyone looked
almost the same. Everyone wore clothes made out of fur or leaves.
Everyone had dark, shiny brown hair that glistened in the sun.
Everyone looked the same. Mostly everyone was nice. Except Max,
of course. Max was filled with cruelty and evil. He was very mean to
Sarah. But everyone else thought he was brilliant because he invented
and made new things for their village. Max lived in a tree house next
to the water hole. Whenever Sarah went to the water hole to get water
for her family, Max would call out mean things to Sarah.

One day Sarah went with Alexis to the water hole to get
some water. Suddenly Sarah stopped in her tracks. Max
was getting some water. Alexis kept walking. “Alexis!”
Sarah whispered. “Come back!” “No!” Said Alexis. “Alexis
since I’m older, I’m in charge!” Sarah said louder. Alexis
kept walking. Sarah had to go with her sister. As they
approached the water hole Max turned around. “Well,
hello.” He said. Sarah stayed silent. “You know,” Max
said. “I’m making a new invention.” Sarah remained silent
to avoid any arguments in front of her sister. “You know, I
bet you’ll never think of anything cool.’ Max said. “I will
too!” Sarah said. Max chuckled. “Really.” Max said.
“Yes.” Sarah said. “In fact, I’m building something at
home.” Sarah lied. “Well, if you are, than I expect to see it
in the invention fair.” Max said. “Fine!” Sarah said. What
had she just gotten herself into?

Sarah started thinking about what she was going to make. If she
wanted to do good in the invention fair, it would have to be something
new, or something not many people knew of. She started thinking of
shapes. Squares…rectangles… Spheres!! She thought. She made four
spheres out of bamboo and they looked beautiful. They glistened in the
sun and were perfectly smooth. She placed them in a pile of leaves and
looked at her piece. But, they needed something. Something that
would make them POP. “Alexis!” Sarah called. “Alexis, come here!”
Alexis came in a hurry. “What?” She said. “Did something happen?”
“No.” Sarah said. “I just need your help.” “Okay.” Alexis said. “Well,”
Sarah said. “I made these spheres. But I think they need something.
Something that will make them pop.” “Hmm.” Alexis said. “What
about c- COLOR!” “Great idea!” Sarah said. Thank you so much!”
Sarah would make the colors bright, but natural colors. She got orange
paint by picking off some of a tiger’s fur. She got brown from herself,
because everyone had brown hair. She got yellow from a bunch of
bananas, and black from night. She then had four colors. Each for one
sphere.

Sarah dropped each sphere into a coconut bowl of
paint. She left them there for five nights. Then,
she took them out. They looked beautiful! But the
spheres were sort of deformed. She came up with
an idea. She would get nuts from a tree and put
one inside each sphere. So she went to pick them.
But as she was picking them an old woman warned
her. “This tree is the tree of life.” She said.
“Those nuts are not normal.” “Oh,” Sarah said.
“That’s okay.” Sarah picked the nuts and put them
inside the spheres. The spheres now looked more
circular and were gorgeous.
