Part 1: IN THE GARDEN

Mandy was walking back home from school with her next door neighbor Katie. Their house was not far away from school, so they walked.

Then Mandy was tired from walking so she said, “Let’s go and rest for a minute.” and the girls went to sit on the nearest bench in the park. 

While they were relaxing Katie’s dog Rex saw a butterfly. Being a very curious little dog, he decided to chase it. When Rex was out of sight Katie had to get up and go after him. Mandy grabbed her school bag and followed her.

They were just in time to see Rex chasing the butterfly near the swings. Katie called his name but he did not go to her, as he usually did. Suddenly he did not seem to want to chase the butterfly any more but then a second after he began chasing it again.

This time he chased it to a lane that neither Katie nor Mandy knew. It took them to a little garden were there were birds, trees, flowers and lots of other beautiful things.

“Wow, this is the nicest place I’ve ever seen!”

exclaimed Katie.” Good boy Rex!”

They walked on until Mandy said, “Look, what’s that?” . . .

Part 2: THE KITTEN

In the meantime, their parents were rather worried. They had been having tea together when they noticed their children were unusually late. They decided to go look for them.

“Let’s start looking in our lane,” suggested Mandy’s dad.

“Alright,” the others replied.

At that moment the girls were cuddling and petting a little ball of fur, it was a kitten! 

Rex was also very friendly with the little brown and black kitten, and this  was strange because he always chased

all cats and kittens he came across.

“It’s so cute!” exclaimed Mandy just as

they came across to their parents.

“Oh good, there you are.” Katie’s dad sighed. Then he called to the other parents, “They’re  safe," he yelled. Everyone was looking at the children.

Katie broke the silence by saying “Look, we found a cuddly fluffy kitten!”

“Yes, but don’t expect that we’re going to keep it.” warned her mum.

“Oh no! Why not? Please!” Katie pleaded.
