Gandhi was in a train on his way to Pretoria from Durban. Gandhi was traveling first class because he had purchased a first class ticket. A white man ordered him to 3rd class because of the color of his skin. This began his thinking about the unfair British rule against Indians.

On 1908 in South Africa Gandhi made a brave move. During a speech he burned passes that all Indians were required to have in order to identify themselves. He got beat and arrested because of this move.

The British government  made some parts of India grow indigo to dye and sell clothes. But because everybody was buying their clothes from Britain because it was cheaper the Indians were not making any money. This left the Indians poor and hungry.

On April 13, 1919 the Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place. A group of peaceful protesters unknowing of the new no protesting law were gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh to protest the Rowlett act. General Dyre sent his troops to open fire on the crowed killing 1516 peaceful protesters.
