John Christopher Depp II (born June 9, 1963),[1] is an American actor, producer, and musician. Nominated for ten Golden Globe Awards, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as the Demon Barber in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Depp is widely regarded as "one of the world's biggest movie stars.

He became a teen idol, coming to prominence with the 1980s television series 21 Jump Street. Depp, who started with a supporting role in Oliver Stone's Vietnam War movie Platoon in 1986 and continued with the main character in the romantic-dark fantasy genre Scissors Hands (1990), takes on roles that are "unavailable in real life". Later, the fantasy thriller Ghost Rider (1999), the fantasy adventure movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) and its sequels, the fantasy movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), the fantasy movie Alice in Wonderland (2010), and the animated He achieved box office success by portraying the main characters in Rango (2011) in the genres ofaction, western and comedy.
