This book is dedicated to my mother who is a hardworking second-grade teacher that makes sure all kids are happy and kind.

Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Giada. Giada was an only child and lived with her mother, father, and dog, Daisy. Giada and her family recently moved from Texas to Connecticut because her dad got a great work opportunity. Giada was really nervous about starting at a new school and trying to make new friends but she knew she couldn't be scared forever.

That following day, Giada arrived at school and began to get familiar with where everything was. While she was looking around for the gym she bumped into a girl.
The girl said, "Excuse you!" Giada quickly apologized and said, "I'm so sorry I wasn't looking where I was going. I'm new here, my name is Giada." The girl rolled her eyes and said "Well my name is Viviana and you better watch where you're walking next time."
Giada sighed, she knew it was going to be difficult to make new friends at this school.
"Really can you watch where you're going?"
"I'm sorry!"

Giada immediately ran into the bathroom and started to tear up. Not knowing what else to do Giada called her mom. "Mom, can we please move back to Texas? I miss my old friends and all the people here are so mean" said Giada. "Honey it's your first day I promise it'll get better, and you'll make new friends," said her mother.
Giada followed with, "Okay, I will do my best to find some new friends here. I love you mom", and hung up.
"Can we please just move back?"

On her way out of the bathroom, a girl walked in and said "Oh my gosh, are you okay". In reply, Giada says "I'm okay. I'm new here and some of the girls are just so mean". "I agree and I've been here my whole life. My name is Clara".
Giada was relieved to finally meet someone nice in this school. Clara said that she would finish showing Giada around the school and in that short time they became pretty good friends. Clara even asked Giada if she wanted to hang out after school. Giada was so excited she shouted "Absolutely!"

"I'm Giada, nice to meet you"
"I'm Clara, It's nice to meet you too!"

After school, Giada and Clara went to Giada's house to play. Clara asked, "So who was bullying you today?" Giada replied " That dumb mean girl Viviana. I wish I could just tell her to shut up!" "I know she can be mean but that's no reason to be mean back Giada," said Clara. "I don't care," shouted Giada "She's an awful person and I hate her!"
Giada stormed off into the house slamming the door behind her and leaving Clara outside by herself.

"That's no reason to be mean back Giada!"
" I don't care!"
Once inside, Giada was met by her mother angrily saying "Why did you slam the door?". Giada said, "Clara's being mean to me now too! I thought she was going to be a good friend." "You go up to your room and I'll go talk to Clara but don't you dare slam another door!" said her mother. Entering her room, Giada begins to cry again. She realizes that she snapped at Clara for no good reason and Clara was her only friend. Giada was angry with herself and wanted to fix things but for now, she would stay in her room until her mother came to get her.

"Go to your room right now!"
"Fine!"
About 20 minutes later, Giada's mother knocked on her door and came into her room.
"I sent Clara home but I expect you to apologize first thing tomorrow morning," said her mother. "Yes, mom of course," stated Giada. "I spoke with Clara and I don't think she was trying to be mean honey, I think she was trying to teach you the golden rule." said her mom. "What does that mean?" said Giada and her mother went on to explain.

"Honey, she's trying to teach you the golden rule"
"The what?"
"The golden rule says, treat others how you'd like to be treated," said Giada's mother. "Which is kind of like saying don't do or say something to someone that you wouldn't want to be said or done to you. You never know what someone could be going through sweetheart." Giada was slowly starting to understand what her mom was saying and she said in reply "So even if she is mean to me first I should be kind?" Giada's mother exclaimed "Yes! You've got it now."
