My name is Kasey James. This story is about
I guess I should say, my former best friend,
Fay Orchid. Fay Orchid was like any other 13
year old girl. Fay liked desserts, the color
pink, puppies,and even skittles.Fay was a
very dark person so to speak, she loved the
color black,it was her favorite color, and
horror movies, she loved to be scared.

Fay's favorite holiday was not Christmas it
was Halloween. Fay loved Halloween, she
counted down to October the 31 every year.
Fay had no idea what was going to happen on
that Halloween, but no one did.I guess I
should begin where all of this started.

The day was October 29, 2002 Fay was
counting down to Halloween as she did every
year. The first two days were pretty much
like the two days before Halloween were
every year, crazy and long. Fay said, "Yay
Halloween is almost here!" She always
sounded giddy a couple of days before
Halloween.

I didn't exactly think it was the right
time to bring up the Halloween dance. We
had liked the same guy for a while and he
asked me to the Halloween dance. His name
is Seth White. "Um, I'm not sure how to
tell you this, but i'm going to the
dance." I said. Fay replied," Well, that's
okay I guess this year we can go to the
dance. I had an awesome night of horror
movies planned, but that's okay." I said,"
Well I kind of got asked to go by
someone." Fay's face sunk when I told her
the news, her favorite day and her best
friend won't even spend it with her, I
felt horrible.

All of sudden she cheered up I could tell by
her face that she had gotten an idea.
"What?" I asked. Fay replied,"Nothing!" She
was still smiling but I didn't want to
question her because she still didn't know
who I was going to the dance with and if she
didn't pester me about who I was going with,
then I was not about to get in her business.
I thought too soon. "Who are you going
with?" Fay asked. I couldn't tell her she
would be heartbroken, so I said,"On second
thought, maybe we should stay here and watch
horror movies." Fay looked at me really
funny but she didn't mention it anymore that
day.

A day later October 30, and Fay was even
happier than yesterday. We went shopping
for Halloween snacks, we had already put up
the decorations the first day of October. I
didn't like to go shopping with Fay,
because she always got carried away, and
tried to get me to buy stuff I didn't need.
Fay knew I would never use the stuff she
picked out, but she didn't seem to mind.
"So, are you still not going to the dance?"
Fay asked. "Well, I have thought about it
more, and I have decided maybe I should go
to the dance." I replied.

Fay brightened up the room with her smile
"Good, because when you told me I was kind
of sad, but then I got an amazing idea."
Fay told me. I guess my face showed how
nervous I felt because she asked me what
was wrong and I told her nothing. Fay
bought a whole bunch of snacks. Then I
realized if she had a plan, and was glad I
was going to the dance, then why did we
need snacks? Fay's mom waited patiently in
the car for us, she always waits for us.
She dropped me off at my house and I
thanked her for taking me shopping and told
Fay I would see her tomorrow.

The next day at school they announced the
details about the Halloween dance "Due to
technical difficulties we will not have our
dance in the gym. One of our students
graciously informed us that the dance could
be held in the ballroom at her house." The
voice on the intercom buzzed. My mouth fell
open, so that was her plan. She was having
the dance at her house since we wouldn't be
watching our annual horror movie marathon.
I was shocked Mrs. Orchid let her have it
there, because she doesn't like a lot of
people at her house at one time.

The intercom told all of the details on how
to make it to the dance, then for a split
second it was quiet. The day was a blur I
didn't see Fay until fourth period and we
can't really talk in that class. She met me
after class "Hey, did you hear the news?"
she asked happily. "Um,yea." I said
hesitantly. She was swept away by a crowd
of giggling girls. I wasn't paying
attention to the time and I was left
stranded, staring blankly into space as
students cleared the halls. The sound of
the bell awoken me from my gaze.

As I turned to walk to my class I hadn't
noticed, but I wasn't alone in the hall when I
looked up it was Seth. "Hi." he said shyly. I
replied cautiously "Hi." For a couple of
seconds we just stood there staring until he
broke the silence. "Do you still want to go to
the dance with me?" he asked. I hesitated
before I answered "Yes." I hope he didn't
notice that I hesitated. "You don't have to go
with me if you don't want to." Seth replied a
frown on his face . I said,"It's not that I
don't want to go, I just don't want to upset
Fay. She tends to be a little dramatic
sometimes." He smiled at the last part and
added "I think Fay will live."
