Once upon a time, in a happy forest, there lived two
monkeys named Max and Sam. Every day in the forest,
Max and Sam would look for bananas. Bananas made
them so happy. Almost as happy as climbing trees.

Max and Sam were the only monkeys in the forest
without special beards that all other monkeys had. They
never thought it would be a big deal, so they kept living
their happy lives in the forest, and continued to pick more
bananas off their favorite banana tree.

One beautiful, sunny morning,
as the flowers waltzed in the
gentle breeze, Max and Sam
decided to climb the tallest tree
in the forest. By their surprise,
they heard a sound coming
from the leaves. It was the
bearded monkeys.

Max and Sam's hearts
jumped, and suddenly, it
wasn't so sunny in the forest
anymore. "Come with us
you no good monkeys! We
will take you somewhere
you belong. The zoo!"

Their world would now be turned upside down.
The clouds hid the sun, the once beautiful
flowers, began to droop, losing their color, and
the brown grass begged for water. On the way
to the zoo, it seemed as though they cried a
thousand tears. They have been free for all of
their life, and now they will be trapped like
dogs in kennels.

The bearded monkeys
seemed to really get a
kick out of what they
have done. "So long!",
the bearded monkeys
shouted, as they
slammed the door with a
bang! Max and Sam
didn't understand why
they were being treated
like this.

So long!

In the morning, the lead zoo
keeper burst in and threw a small
piece of bread on the floor. "Get up
you lousy animals. You will all be
performing tricks for the people
today, and do as we say! You have
two minutes to eat and get out
there."

The animal that wasn't able to do the coolest
trick for the keepers were sent away. Luckily
neither Sam nor Max were sent away.
You're out of here elephant!
This was now the daily routine for the zoo
animals. Given little to no food, it was hard to
survive, and every days expectations were
greater. It was hard for Max and Sam to
perform tricks everyday that the zoo keepers
approved of. These hard times left the
monkeys crying silently while trying to sleep.
