Lunar New Year (Tết Nguyên Đán 2023)

Xét về ý nghĩa xã hội và kinh tế, Tết Nguyên đán được hàng tỷ người trên toàn thế giới tổ chức. Ngày nay, ở Trung Quốc, Hàn Quốc, Việt Nam, Nhật Bản, Mông Cổ và các quốc gia khác trên khắp thế giới, Tết Nguyên đán là một dịp tuyệt vời để tụ tập bạn bè và gia đình để ăn uống và ăn mừng. Tết Nguyên đán có thể cúng lễ theo tín ngưỡng, mê tín dị đoan. Những người ăn mừng không đổ rác vào ngày đầu tiên vì người ta tin rằng làm như vậy sẽ cuốn trôi may mắn và sự giàu có của họ. Ngày thứ hai - được coi là ngày đầu tiên của năm - được dành cho người thân. Các chuyến thăm họ hàng và bạn bè được tránh vào ngày thứ ba vì nó được cho là một ngày dễ xảy ra xung đột!

Family & Friends

Lunar New Year is a holiday about bringing people together. My favorite thing is seeing my family as well as receiving money from them! Wearing áo dài is part of it, too! Though, we didn't believe in any superstitions, I think doing them would be pretty fun. At my temple, the leaders invite us to go to a restaurant so we can celebrate together! We do dances and games, so it's my favorite holiday to see my friends!

Bánh Chưng

Bánh chưng is a Vietnamese traditional food eaten during Lunar New Year. It has sticky rice as an outer layer and either pork or mung bean.

Lion Dance

Lion dancing is my favorite thing about Lunar New Year because I think the lion costumes are really cool. The dancers are really good and talented too! There are drum playing in the background and it always vibrates through my chest.

Lì Xì

    Lì xì, or lucky money, is a tradition used to give luck and money! In families, we wish each other a good year and health and the money usually goes to young children. 

Bầu cua cá cọp - squash crab fish game

This is an extremely fun game that can create a very boisterous atmosphere. Players place wagers on a board that has the six pictures, betting on which pictures will appear. If one die corresponds with a bet, the better receives the same amount as their bet. If two dice correspond with a bet, the better receives two times their money.

Flower Market

    In Ho Chi Minh city, three biggest flower markets Ho Thi Ky, Dam Sen, Hau Giang. During the year, these markets sell hundreds of kinds of flowers from different regions of Vietnam and other countries. At Tet festival, there are more beautiful flowers and plants for Tet, the markets are more crowded and busy. Especially, Ho Thi Ky Flower Market never sleeps.

Five Fruit Tray

The five‑fruit tray is a symbol of the wholeheartedness and filial piety of the present generation towards their ancestors and the Genie of the Land. Like other popular rituals, the preparation of a five‑fruit tray for Tet has become an established convention.
