Part 1

Supermarkets have not been stocking the shelves withwhat many consider healthy foods. They have been
giving us food with a lot of chemicals and ingredients
that should not be in there. It is kind of like different
versions of that food! For example, "I can't believe it's
not butter" would be a different choice for butter. It
tastes similar but it's missing some ingredients butter
has. The other choices are called margarine, and it was
one of the first main products that was basically a
replacement of the real thing. It has some bad things
like fats but they took some of that out and added some
vitamins. Certain products such as margarine are not
too bad, but the more chemicals get added, the worse
it will get.

4A lot of the foods that are not good for you getadvertised by products you see all the time. It gets
the word out more, leaving the good and whole foods
behind. A lot of people do not enjoy fruits and
vegetables, but there also are quite a bit of people
who do. Sure, there are so many sweets that everyone
loves but you can't be eating that all the time! You
would get very unhealthy, and no one wants that!
Usually people want to live longer and happier
Eating some vegetables and fruits can help you
accomplish that! If you do not like the way some of
them taste you could try adding something to it. For
example a salad, and a little ranch or some type of
dressing. The nutrients will be good for you!
Watch out! Low-fat is not always great, carbohydrates
can make you gain weight too.

4

5Low-fat products can make you hungrier which willmake you want more! So remember not to eat too much
of anything low-fat. When science gets involved with
food it is not always good. Adding all the chemicals to
foods are not helping, the whole food will benefit you more!

Part 2In the summer of 1812, Kerin O'Dea got middle aged, over weight diabetics to test an experiment. During the experiment,
she was looking to see if they change the process of their
westernization for a little while. All the volunteers had type
2 diabetes that was caused by metabolic syndrome. The disease
was caused by cheap meats, alcohol, and powdered milk. They
went on a diet of mainly birds, kangaroo, and seafood! After
all this, scientists concluded that their health problems got
better. Some people still are not sure which food they would
rather eat, whole or chemical. Animals have learned what
plants to stay away from because they can tell by the color and
its ripeness but it becomes hard when the food has had chemicals
added to it.
6
7Are foods grown in nature and foods grown in labs reallythat different? When you eat natural food it is a lot easier for
your body to digest it! When the food has chemicals added
though, it loses some of its nutrients. Fertilizers mess up the
soil the food is growing in. Corn, wheat, and rice is something
that can trick you when you think of natural food. The food
has less nutrients so you have to eat more to get the nutrition
you need. You basically eat more seeds, or grain, and not
enough leaves, or vegetables! If you are not eating them, you
are not getting the nutrition you need.

Part 3People eating a Western diet get a lot of diseases thatpeople eating normal diets do not usually get. No matter
what the scientists say, you should not be eating the
Western diet. Everyone processes foods differently and
where the foods are grown can really change how healthy
it is. Try not to eat foods with big ingredients you do not
understand, especially anything your grandma would
not recognize. Grandparents are probably more familiar
with local and whole foods because a while back, it was
mainly what they ate. Make sure to eat of vegetables for all
the vitamins, fiber, and nutrients!
8

9If you are still a little confused on how you should eatthen just read this! First, do not eat too much food.
Next, eat meals to fill you instead of snacks. Third,
listen to your stomach, if the food is not going in your
body well, you can probably hear it. Last, when you are
older, or maybe even now, you can make a garden and
grow your own healthy food!
