Do you like playing jokes? Some people definitely do. So did some students from the University of Durham.
Many years ago, the 1st of April started with a little fun and didn't seem to promise too much laughter. No wonder, the need to make the day remarkable was getting stronger and stronger.A crazy idea crossed one of the student's mind when he noticed two workers right in front of the university using pneumatic drills. He immediately phoned the police and informed them:

Hello, I have some important information which may interest you. Two students dressed up as workers are making stupid jokes and they are tearing up the road in front of the university with pneumatic drills!

As soon as he finished the phonecall he rushed downstairs and kindly shared such a piece of information with the workers:
- Hi guys, some students are playing all sorts of stupid jokes to people. They dressed up as policemen. If they arrive and order you to go away, just ignore them!

Both the police and the workmen were really greatful to the student for such precious information

The student and his companions hide in an archway nearby where from they could watch and hear everything that was going on. Sure enough, the police arrived on the scene and politely asked the workmen:

Well, young man, it's enough. Please stop the game and go away.
One of the workmen replied rudely:
- You get away, I'm teeling you!
Hearing this, the policeman threatened:
-If you don't stop, we will remove you by force!
-Do what you wish- snapped the workmen with clear intention to continue their work

Feeling a bit helpless, the policeman phoned for help

Help please
Shortly afterwards, four more policeman arrived and remonstrated with the workmen. As the men refused to stop working, the policeman attempted to seize their pneumatic drills. The workmen struggled fiercely and one of them lost his temper.

I will call the police
At this, one of the policemen pointed thet it wouldn't be necessary as both workmen were alredy under arrest.

Being quite serious, one of the workers asked for permission to a telephone before being taken to the police station. Permission was granted and surprised policemen realized that the man was calling the police station and informing them about what they had experienced

What the policmen could observe was the strange expression on the workman's face. Now everybody realized that all of them were victim of a hoax.
Both the policemen and the workers felt sorry and ridiculed. Do I have to tell you that the only persons who couldn't stop laughing were the students?
