CommasCommas are used to separate independent
clauses when they are joined together by
conjunctions. Ex: fan boys= for, and, nor,
but, or, yet, and so.

the ocean is much better.

More Commas...Commas should be used after introductory
clauses, phrases, or words that come
before the main clause.

play, but don't get dirty.

Use commas to separate three or more words,
phrases, or clauses written in a series.

More semi colon rulesYou should always use a comma before a
FANBOY word if and only if it is combining
two full sentences.

buy some coffee and donuts.

More semi colon rulesConjunctive Adverbs, much like
conjunctions, are words that help to
combine two full sentences (independent
clauses).

therefore, I should receive credit for the
quarter.

Last semi colon ruleUse a semicolon to clarify a list of items when
each item has punctuation within itself.

soy sauce; salad, with Italian dressing; toast,
with garlic and butter; and pizza, with green
peppers, cheese, and mushrooms.

Plurals and PossessivesThe rule for using a noun as a possessive
means you take the noun add an apostrophe
and then add an s to show possession.

minutes ago.

More plurals and possessivesTo make plural nouns possessive you just need
to add an apostrophe after the “s”.
