It was the first day of Kindergarten. Broderick was a little nervous as he and his mom walked into the classroom.

Broderick asked his mom if she could stay at school with him. His mom knelt down, gave him a big hug and reassured him that he was going to love kindergarten!

Broderick's teacher, Mrs. Alford, greeted them at the door. "Hello, you must be Broderick" she said in a gentle voice. Broderick thought his teacher was magic because she knew his name (Brightly Storytime Together, n.d.)!

Mrs. Alford noticed Broderick looking at the blocks on the table. "Broderick, would you like to play with the blocks?" she asked. "Yes!" he said excitedly.

Mrs. Alford knelt down by Broderick and asked him if he knew the colors of the blocks. He proudly said, "Red, blue, green, yellow, and my favorite color, red!" (CDC, 2018a). Mrs. Alford praised him for naming all the colors correctly!

Mrs. Alford asked the students who could write their name on the board (CDC, 2018a). Broderick quickly raised his hand and said, "I can!"

Mrs. Alford's helper, Miss Molly, read the book, 'Kindergarten, Here I Come!' by D.J. Steinberg during read-aloud (Brightly Storytime Together, n.d.). Broderick loved rhyming books!
Miss Molly asked the children who wanted to share with the class what the book was about (CDC, 2018b). Broderick raised his hand and said, "It's about a boy, like me, on his first day of kin-kind-kindergarten! His teacher was magic cuz she knew his name, just like Mrs. Alford!" (Brightly Storytime Together, n.d.). "Oh, and the words rhymed."

At the end of the school day, Broderick ran over to his mom and gave her a big hug! He was talking a mile a minute! His mom said, "Slow down, buddy. I cannot understand what you are saying!" Broderick took a deep breath and said, "Mommy, I played with blocks and slid down the yellow slide! Oh, and Miss Molly read a book about a boy like me! Today was the best day ever! Can I come back tomorrow, please?" (CDC, 2018b).

"Of course you can!", his mom said. Broderick grabbed his moms hand and pulled her towards the bulletin board. "Mommy, I have a surprise for you, look what I drew!"(CDC, 2018a). His mom smiled with joy and said, "You drew a picture of me!"
