Hi, My name is 

MaKenna, and I am 

currently a Freshman 

here at Black Hills 

State University, and 

this is my digital story! 

I hope you enjoy!

I have one little 

brother...

...and I have one 

little sister.

During the school year I work at Kids Club Kids at the West 

Elementary school across from the Black Hills State University 

campus. Here, I supervise 1st and 2nd graders and assist 

them with crafts, gym games, and other free time activities. 

  During the summer and when I'm home on break I work at 

an after school program in my hometown as well. I basically 

have the same responsibilities, except for I work with all ages 

of kids. I really enjoy both of my jobs and it helps me get an 

idea of what it will be like to be a teacher, which is my 

ultimate goal! 

Everyone has things that they like to do in their free time, 

right? Well a couple of things that I like to do during the 

school year are: play volleyball for fun, rent some movies with 

friends, and go on walks. At home during the summer, I like 

to play on a softball team and go to the beach with friends. 

I enjoy reading Sci-Fi novels such as the Twilight Saga & The Hunger 

Games Trilogy. I like reading these kinds of books because they 

always keep you on your toes and wanting more. I also enjoy reading 

Romance Novels such as the Notebook, Dear John, The Last Song, and 

A Walk To Remember. I find these books enjoyable because they give 

you that "feel good" feeling and are very addicting. I have always been 

interested in these different genre's because they have always been 

able to keep my attention!

I believe a good way to make kids want to read is to make it 

look fun! When you do story time or group readings pick out 

fun but educational books and read them with emotion so you 

can keep their attention. If you, as an authority figure show 

them that reading can be fun they will pick up on that and 

want to start reading on their own!
