The Ant and The Grasshopper

One day on a sweltering July day, a column of ants
were marching through a corn field collecting fallen
kernels to store enough food to survive through the
coming winter. Between the forest and the corn
field, there was a sunflower field where
grasshoppers hung out in playing in bands,
laughing, and drinking. The grasshoppers were
having a great time compared to the ants, who
were hauling dozens of kernels across the field. One
of the ants, Billy, was carrying too many kernels for
his age, and collapsed afterward with a fractured
leg.

Upon Billy's cries of agony, the grasshoppers stopped playing abruptly and looked to help
the injured ant. However, the grasshoppers began laughing hysterically and were on the
border of shedding tears, especially the conductor, Howard. The lead ant, John, furiously
approached the grasshoppers after assigning two ants to help Billy and two ants to carry
the remaining kernels.
John angrily exclaimed at the grasshoppers, “Why couldn't you help you slack jawed mouth
breathers!? I'm here trying to guide my people with their winter reserves on their baking
backs back to our mound, and you guys don't even bother to help my fallen comrade?
Seriously, why can't you at least try to help here. Thinking about it now, why aren't you
guys preparing winter reserves right now? There's food a plenty all around this field.”

Howard was barely wiping off his tears when John
stopped ranting about Billy and winter reserves,
when he began laughing again. And shortly
thereafter, the rest of the grasshoppers began
laughing again, uncontrollably.
John was very frustrated with the grasshoppers, so
he just gave up on arguing with them and went
back to the unending column of ants.

Upon arriving at the ant mound, John ordered the ants to place a
large part of the kernels next to the queen's throne and the
nursery, and the remaining kernels were placed in the commons
room.

5 months later, in the middle of December, winter struck harshly across
the countryside. The ant colony was doing incredibly well, considering the
fact that they abundantly stored corn kernels that fed the entire colony
from the beginning of winter.

John was having a winter solstice party when someone knocked on the
front door of the mound. He carefully opened it as no one was supposed
to be out in the harsh winter storm. Between the snowflakes, he could see
the silhouette of Howard and his fellow grasshoppers who sneered
between bursts of shivering and veils of ice, “Hey Johnny, it's cold out
here, would you mind letting a hearty grasshopper into the party? You
know I'm starving, but I can play a mean concert with my other buddies!”
John, frustrated with the grasshoppers for not saving food for winter and
now asking for food, but not wanting to see a fellow insect die of cold and
hunger, decided to welcome the grasshoppers into the ant mound.
