a lagoon
By Loren
The Ria de Aveiro was formed in the 16th century, when the sea receded in its line, leaving along eleven thousand hectares of coastal cords that formed a lagoon.
Rich in fish and waterfowl, it has large areas of water, ideal places to practice all water sports.
Although the Ria has been losing, from year to year, the importance it once had in the economy of Aveiro, the production of salt, using ancient techniques, is still one of the most characteristic traditional activities of the city of Aveiro.
