This is Wilbert and his three best friends.  They are the mean whales at school, especially to new whales. 

“Hey guys! Looks like we have somebody new to mess with,”  Wilbert said looking towards the new whale. 

 “Yeah, about that...We have decided that we don’t want to be known as the mean whales anymore,” said James.  

    “We know this will be hard for you, so we are going to give you some space until then.”

Then they swam off, leaving Wilbert shocked.  Wilbert felt as sad as a weeping willow.  

When he got home he went straight up to his room.  Wilbert worried, wondering about a world without his friends.  Wilbert wished he would find the willpower to be nice.  Whether he found that power or not, he knew he had to find out how to be nice and fast.  

Then it came to him.  He would tell his friends he was nice even though he wasn’t.  It was a perfect plan.

The next day at school Wilbert went up to his friends. 

     “Hey guys!  Great news, I am nice now.”  

Then Wilbert swam off to go to his English class before anyone could say anything else.  He felt like a million bucks.

    In his class, the teacher was handing back the essays they wrote last week.  Walter sat right in front of Wilbert, so when Wilbert saw that he made a perfect score he knew had to congratulate him.  

    “Nice job on that perfect score Walter.”

Wilbert thought it would sound nice, but when he said it out loud, it didn’t.  Then, Wilbert saw Jemma’s disappointed face and he knew he had to figure out a different way to be nice. 

As Wilbert was leaving the class, he overheard Jemma saying, “I don’t know how Wilbert can be so mean to him.  Walter has a heart of gold.”

Wilbert was now determined to learn to be nice.  When Wilbert got home he went straight to his sister, Jordan, who was the nicest person he knew.

    “I need your help,” he said.  

    “With what?” Jordan said curiously.  

    “I need to learn how to be nice and I figured you could help since you're so nice.”

    “Well Wilbert, let me tell you something that most people don’t know.  I used to not be this nice.”  Wilbert was shocked.      “Well, how did you become so nice?”  he said. 

    “I started smiling more.  Complimenting people I wasn’t very close with.  Little things like that.”  

“That is not that hard!”  Wilbert said enthusiastically as his sister left the room.
