One summer afternoon, a mother duck sat quietly on her
nest. In the nest were five beautiful eggs. She sat patiently,
waiting for her eggs to hatch and produce five little
ducklings.

Soon enough, one by one they started to hatch and
four beautiful bright yellow duckings came out of their
shells. All but one egg had not hatched yet.

Finally, the last duckling hatched. The other
ducklings stared in shock when they saw him.
He looked nothing like the others.
"He's ugly!" yelled one of the ducklings.

The ugly duckling asked his mother,
"Why am I so different mom?"
His mother answered, "you're different but
you're my son, so I love you anyway."

The ugly duckling was extremely upset. He
didn't feel like ever going outside to play
because of how ugly he was. He was terrified
of seeing people so he stayed in the nest all
day. He never played with his siblings.

As the days passed, he decided to run away.
Somewhere where he could be alone, away
from any interaction with others. With his head
held low, he traveled and traveled until he
found a perfect spot.

The ugly duckling found a small pond that was
isolated from the rest of the animals.
"I'll stay here forever," he thought.
"No one will ever have to see my ugliness and
I will never have to be out in public ever
again"

Years passed and no one ever found him. Until
one day, he saw a bird flying above him. He
wanted to hide. He was so afraid of seeing
someone new.

"Hello!" said the bird. "What seems to be the matter?"
The ugly duckling said nothing at all. He was too afraid. He was
trembling. He began to have shortness of breath and he was
sweating.

"It seems to me that you have Anthropophobia. Fear of
people. It's caused by external events like past
traumatic experiences, usually from an early age, and
internal predispositions like heredity and genetics"

"Wh-who are you?" stuttered the ugly duckling
"I'm here to help you overcome your phobia"
said the bird
