Hi!!!2

Alexis was a rich girl that loved horses. Her favorite thing to do was ride them. She lived on a huge open area with many
acres of soft green grass and trails of worn paths from the
sleek horses. Her second favorite thing to do was to smoke.

3

Alexis’s friend’s brother had been sneakingher cigarettes for two years, since she
was 12. Now, for her 13th birthday party,
Alexis was excited about getting a new horse
that had plenty of medals from shows and
races.

4

“Happy Birthday!” yelled her mother and father. Alexis woke
and found herself in the midst
of her family. Her face was filled with
her smile and her blue eyes sparkled
in the sunlight.

Happy Birthday!!!5

When everyone had left, she quickly put on her newbirthday outfit. As she raced into the kitchen, she
remembered the pack of smokes in her pocket.
They burned a hole there. What was she to do
when she went downstairs in the sunlit room filled
with family, friends, and gifts? Alexis decided to let
it go, because, how would her parents figure it out?

I forgot about the smokes!
6

After her huge dinner, Alexis opened her presents. The gifts
including money, candy, and
clothes, made her happy.

7

But when Alexis went to the big red barn, she shrieked with joy. A
muscular horse stood in the doorway.
It was a black horse with gray
hair pulled into many braids. The
teeth were gleaming white and the
tail swished merrily. This horse was
hers!

YAAAY:)
8

That night, when everyone wastucked in bed, Alexis and her
friends quickly snuck out of the
house and down the tree to the
barn. They all grabbed a horse
and stole away into the night.

9

Meanwhile, back at the house, everyone was worried about them.
Where would they be? Alexis’s
brother looked in the barn only to find
that three horses were missing.
The family split into groups to go
find the girls while Alexis’s mother
stayed back in case they returned.

Where
did they
go???
10

As Alexis and her friends rode on, they thought they saw a figure riding
around. To be safe, they quickly
dropped the smokes that they were
smoking with, leaped on their horses
and raced to the pasture.

11

Back at home, Alexis’s mother smelled smoke. She looked outside
and saw a gigantic fire zooming
wildly towards their house. She ran
as fast as her legs could carry her
to the phone.

Oh No! I
need
to call
911

12

The first call went to 911 and she quickly explained what she was
witnessing. The second call went to
her husband and kids who were still
out looking for Alexis.

13

Meanwhile Alexis smelled smoke. “Uh oh,” she said,”I think that we had better make
an escape, and quickly.” The four
girls brought the horses to a pasture
and ran to a cornfield where they
settled down to wait for a long wait.

14

Finally, the firemen came. The three friends watched the fire as they came and started
using the hose. They watched as the fire
started going away from the house, but
managing to keep going.

15

Quickly, the fire spread farther and farther. All of a sudden, they heard a
high pitched sound. Looking
sideways, Alexis gasped.

GASP!!!16

The fire had gone toward the pastureand the horses were stuck in there!
Alexis leaped to her feet and sprinted
toward them. It was horrible. The
horses were panicking, and it looked
like they were hurting each other.

Oh No!!!

17

Even though it was a dumb idea, Alexis grabbed the gate and wrung it
open. She jumped in the pasture
and herded the horses out of there.
From there, she put her
friends on a horse, and they
rode around. A last, they reached
the house.
