Biotic Factors
Plants-Spruce, hemlock and fir
Animals-Bohemian Waxwing, Hawk owl, and Ermine
Abiotic Factors
Landforms-High plains, some mountain ranges, and mountains
Soil-thin and lacking in nutrients.
Climate-very cold, average temperature is below freezing 6 months out
of the year, and yearly precipitation in the taiga is 12 - 33 inches
Impact People Have on the Biome
Some impacts that humans have on the environment are deforestation
and hunting. Logging occurs in the taiga leading to deforestation and
loss of animal habitat. The animals suffer from this along with hunting.
Hunting kills many animals in this biome.
Location
The Taiga exist within the latitudes of 65.154 and the longitudes of :-
147.503
Taiga
TundraBiotic Factors
Animals-polar bears black flies and arctic foxes
Plants-moss, heaths, and trees
Abiotic Factors
Landform-rough terrain with many mountains
Soil-poor in nutrients, and there is an under-layer of soil called permafrost
which remains completely frozen all the time, allowing little room for deep
rooting plants and trees, therefore there are very few trees in a tundra region
Climate-extremely low climate, cold temperatures
Impact People have on the Biome
Global Warming: Melting glaciers and permafrost flood areas and destroys
plant species.
Oil Drilling: Tundra has many natural resources, like oil and nickel. Pollution
from mines and rigs ruins the fragile ecosystem.
Location
71.2ºN; 156ºW
Tundra

Biotic Factors
Plants- Bark, Lianas, and Nepenthes
Animals - Bearded Pig, Capybara, and Flying Dragon
Abiotic Factors
Landforms- Mountain, Valley, Wetland
Soil- Soil is nutrient-poor and acidic. Decompostion is rapid and soils are
subject to heavy leaching.
Climate- average 20-25º C. It varies little throughout the year; the average
temperatures of the three warmest and three coldest months do not differ
by more than 5º. Annual rainfall exceeding 2000 mm.
Impact humans have on Biome
Pollution-The ground, air, and water become polluted from mining.
Deforestation-Organisms start to disappear due to the fact that they lose
their homes through deforestation by humans.
Location
23.5º N and 23.5º S near the equator.
Tropical Rain Forest

Biotic Factors
Plants-Cactus, Aloe, and few trees such as the dragon tree
Animals-Addax, Cactus Wren, and the Desert Lark
Abiotic Factors
Landforms-Gravel, boulders, mountains, clay, and various types of soil cover
most of the rest of the land.
Soil-Have abundant nutrients because they need only water to become very
productive and have little or no organic matter.
Climate--Desert climates are formed by high-pressure zones in which cold air
descends. It is a Low Latitude climate.
Impact People Have on the Biome
Off roading (when we run our vehicles over the desert soil) carves tracks into
the soil that will scar the land for many years.Trenching that is makes soil
crusts and rock surfaces unstable, concentrating erosion and water runoff.
Location
Many deserts are in bands along 30º latitude north and 30º latitude south.
Desert

Abiotic Factors
Animals-girrafes, bulls, and turkeys
Plants-perriental grasses, stems and buds, trees and shrubs of all sorts
Abiotic Factors
Landforms-Vast expanses of open land.
Soil-Has some of the richest and darkest soil on Earth
Climate-Hot summers and cold winters
Impacts Humans Have on Biome
Humans are taking use of the rich soil in temperate grasslands to their
advantage and making it farmland. Using this biome as farmland is producing
a lot of food such as wheat. Also temperate grasslands are becoming feeding
grounds for cattle which can be then turned into food. This food is important
to America but this destruption may cause the plants and animals that live in
this biome to loose their homes and maybe loose their lifes.
Location
