KONGRESI I MANASTIRIT SCHOOL
Andrea and his parents decided to go on a sightseeing trip to some of the places he got to know during an eTwinning project last year. At first they would start their journey from Albania, then they would travel to Turkey, Georgia and finally Croatia. The road from Italy to Albania was very short by plane. As soon as they arrived at Rinas (the main airport in Albania), his friend Gezmi and his parents welcomed them. He had known joy through the project and they had often communicated on whats up together. Gezimi invited them to spend the evening together at his house where his mother had cooked traditional Albanian food which his friends from Italy liked very much.

They spent the next day visiting the capital of Albania, Tirana. Joy's father accompanied them to the city center where they visited the bust of the National Hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, the Museums of Tirana, the Et'hem Beu Mosque. A special visit was to Bunk'Art dedicated to the communist period that Albania went through
A day later they left to visit Berat. The city of one over one windows was included in the UNESCO list on July 8, 2008. Joy showed him the city's fortress where the Museum of Onuf, a museum of icons, was also located. The old quarters of the city, he walked along the Osum River showing all the beauties that this wonderful part of the city had to offer. He told him that today Berat inherits 210 museum objects, of which 150 are standing objects. Of them, 60 are monuments of the first category and the others of the second category.
The castle or fortress, as it is called by the Berata people, is built on a rocky hill in the shape of a triangle. The Gorica Bridge is one of Berat's cultural and architectural monuments and at the same time one of its symbols. It was built in 1780 to be rebuilt later in the form it has today. There are many churches of the Byzantine period as well as a place for the arts and crafts of this city.
The rare architecture of this nearly 2500-year-old city, the heritage it carries make this city truly rare.. Andreas and his parents loved this city and the magic it spread around. They continued their way towards the south of Albania and the next day they would visit the stone city of Gjirokastra

Andrea and Gezimi together with their parents spent the night in one of the most beautiful hotels in the south of Albania in Cold Water Tepelenë. There they saw the beautiful waterfalls of the Drino River, the picturesque view that this magical place offered and tasted the traditional dishes of the area which they really liked. the night was beautiful and they couldn't wait for the next day to visit Gjirokastra, a city they had read a lot about on the internet and where Gezimi's family came from.
The morning started with a warm sun that invited you to walk by the river. After having breakfast, they left for Gjirokastra. The road was only 40 minutes away. When they approached the city they saw the first sights and marveled at this ash colored city which they called the City of a thousand steps.
They drove up to a place called Bazaar Neck and visited the souvenir shops from which Andrea's mother bought some. Later they climbed the fort. A magnificent view of the whole city and the valley before it. High mountains rose all around. The castle was big and Gezimi's father told us that the Folklore Festival takes place here every 4 years with the participation of Albanians from all over the world. Then we visited the streets of the city and it was really something wonderful to visit.
We headed south where we went to Saranda and later to Butrint, an ancient city with a wonderful view. The ancient old town and medieval castle offered picturesque views. After taking many pictures we went to Saranda to spend the night. In the summer, the city is full of tourists and the beach with its crystal clear waters invites you to stroll by the sea. The next day we left for Pogradec.

Created about 2 million years ago by the filling of the tectonic pit with water, Lake Ohrid is the second largest in Albania after that of Shkodra. Located at an altitude of 695 m, it has an area of 365 km2, of which only 111.4 km2 belong to Albania. It is also the deepest lake in the Balkan peninsula with a depth of 287 m. Its basin is distinguished by the transparency of the waters in which a rich flora and fauna grows. The purity of the water is another characteristic of Lake Ohrid. This is because it is supplied with water from the karst springs of Saint Naum, Drilon and Tushemishti, as well as through underground channels from the lake of Prespa the Great. But Lake Ohrid is the lake with a discharge, as the 172 km long Drini i Bardhë, one of the branches of the Drin River, originates from it in Struga. The city of Pogradec and the villages of Lin, Hudenishti, Memëlishti and Tushemishti are located along its coast, in which the fishing of Koran and Belushka, the two most popular fish of the 17 species that grow there, is developed. For the many values that Lake Ohrid carries, it has been declared a UNESCO property.
They left from Rinas at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.Goodbye Albania...
