Our story is the story of Mert, who never liked mathematics.

Mert matematiği hiç sevmezdi.Matematik zor ve karmaşık bir dersti.Matematik günlük hayatta ne işe yarardı?" diye düşündü.Mert bir gün okulun bahçesinde oyun oynarken arkadaşlarının matematiğin günlük hayattaki önemine dair anlattıklarını duyar.Arkadaşı Ayşe...

-Matematik bilmek çok önemli.Çünkü matematik hayatımızın içinde var. Sadece bunu fark etmek gerekir. Bir gün annemle markette alışverişi yaparken  kasadaki kasiyerin matematik hesaplamaları yaptığını fark ettim.Annem de  alışveriş sepetindeki ürünlerin  fiyatlarını  kontrol edip,  ödeyeceği parayı hesaplarken matematik kullandı.Annem ''Eğer doğru hesap yapmazsak, fazla  veya eksik para ödeyebiliriz'' dedi.

Mert'in arkadaşı  Ayşe devam etti: "Babamın işi de matematikle ilgili. O inşaat mühendisi. Her gün binanın planlarını inceler, ölçüler yapar ve hesaplamalar yapar.Binanın ne kadar malzeme gerektiğini, kaç işçiye ihtiyaç duyulduğunu ve projenin maliyetini hesaplar. Eğer yanlış hesap yaparsa, inşaat sorunlarla karşılaşabilir ve işler aksayabilir. Matematik ona doğru bir şekilde çalışmayı ve başarıyı getirir."dedi.

Mert , arkadaşının anlattıklarını dinlerken çok şaşırmıştı. Matematik gerçekten hayatın içindeydi. Mert  bu konu ile ilgili daha fazla örnek duymak istediği için öğretmeniyle  konuşmak istedi.

Mert'in öğretmeni: 

-Konuyu daha iyi anlaman için bir oyun oynayalım mı? diye sordu.

Oyun bir araba yarışı oyunuydu.

Mert'in öğretmeni oyunun kurallarını matematiksel ifadelerle açıkladı.Doğru matematiksel hesaplamalar yapmadan oyunu  kazanmak mümkün değildi.

Öğretmen:Matematik günlük hayatımızda bir çok yerde matematiği kullanırız.Sayılar,şekiller, matematik işlemleri hayatın her anında karşımıza çıkar.  

            Mert'in matematiği çok iyi öğrenmesi gerekiyordu.Çünkü Matematiğin beslenmeyle,sağlıkla,sporla, sanatla hatta müzikle bile bir ilişkisi vardı. 

Mert, bu anlatılanlardan  sonra matematiğin gerçekten önemli olduğunu anlamıştı. Matematik sadece bir dersten ibaret değildi, hayatın her alanında kullanılıyordu. Artık matematiği sevdiğini fark etti ve daha çok pratik yapmaya karar verdi.Çünkü matematik hayatın içinde vardı.
