I'm a new teacher and I just obtained a job at an urban school, however, the environment and condition surrounding urban education makes me worry a lot about the future of our students
One of the biggest issues with the current education system is the challenges presented by a growing student body, there is a systematic relationship between the quality of the conditions of work in schools and the student populations they serve, showcasing how there is a degradation of the condition of a school that correlates to an increase in student population

As a student in school, one of the main issues I have faced is the difficult path to student achievement due to new teachers leaving the profession after only 2 or 3 years which disrupts efforts to build a strong organizational culture and to sustain coordinated instructional programs throughout the school
Collegial relationships, the principal’s leadership, and school culture are the strongest determinants of student achievement growth and high teacher turnover results in the degradation of beneficial collegial relationships as well as a bad school culture or environment harming the student body as well as resulting in high teacher turnover

One of the biggest setbacks as a new teacher are difficulties surrounding the school environment, being in an urban location compounds this and the lacking of a proper school environment results in negative effects for teachers, students and therefore harms student achievement

Many of my new collogues have become increasingly overwhelmed during the beginning stages of their teaching careers, the environment and school systems many teachers are thrown into is very stressful and can negatively impact them mentally, so much so that they decide to leave the profession

Higher-ups in school district also deem certain schools and teachers as "lower performing," which results in a negative stigma around certain schools, specifically those with lower income students, because of this me and many other teachers fear turnover due to the idea that we may be "lesser" educators when in reality the environment of the school plays a major factor in performance from both students and staff

As a student, many of my favorite teachers have been "let go" as they were deemed "lower performing" which impacted me negatively as the new teachers were a lot tougher and stricter, and I missed many of my old educators

The school I attend is also labeled as a "lower performing" school, so I unknowingly am receiving a less refined education simply based on my environment and where I live because less effective teachers are often concentrated in lower-performing schools serving disadvantaged students

Personally, this seems unfair as I just go to the school closest to me and I unknowingly given a lower chance at success and student achievement because of this
