In Japan,there lived a little girl called Katherine.She 

was a princess and was always studying because her 

father asked her to.She could not play and could not 

have fun.She could not do anything.EXCEPT 

STUDY.Katherine felt cursed.Even the village children-

who she was half controlling-could play!Katherine was 

always lonely and felt miserable.

The next day,Katherine's father,the king, smiled 

happily. "You passed your maths test!" he told Katherine 

while smiling. "Here,this is your prize," he said while 

handing her a magazine. "Thanks daddy!" Katherine 

replied before rushing to her room to read the 

magazine.

" Hmm,whats this?" Katherine asked herself,turning to 

page 15.There were big words.They said Pen Pals. "What 

are pen pals?" Katherine wondered.She continued 

reading. "Pen pals are friends from other countries that 

you write to," Katherine read aloud.Below,there were 

many advertisements from children and adults wanting 

pen pals. "I'd like to write to someone.I'll ask Daddy 

first," Katherine thought.

Katherine ran out and went to the throne room. "Can I 

write to somebody?To be my pen pal?" Katherine 

pleaded the king.He chuckled. "Oh,I had a pen pal when 

I was younger.It was tons of fun.And I've seen that 

you're quite lonely.Of course you can!" he replied 

merrily. "Yay!Thanks!" Katherine replied.She went into 

her room,read the magazine,ticked the ads that she 

liked and started writing letters.

Hello Felicity!I am Katherine and I am a princess in 

Japan.It may not sound real but it is true.I would like

think it sounds exciting to have a pen pal though.I love 

drawing too!There's one of my favourite drawings at the 

bottom.I like to eat Sushi.I can eat sushi for every

you like   what you eat?I had a pet goldfish but my dad 

(the king) released him into a pond so that the pond 

would have   good luck as there were many incidents
