The Civil Rights Movement was when people worked together to make sure that everyone was treated fairly and equally, no matter their skin color. African Americans faced a lot of unfair treatment and discrimination. One person who played a big role in the Civil Rights Movement was Martin Luther King Jr. He believed in peaceful protests and using words to make a change.

The Declaration of Independence is an important document written in 1776, by the Founding Fathers. They wanted to explain why the American colonies were separating from Great Britain and becoming their own country. They also wanted to make it clear that they had the right to govern themselves and make their own decisions.

Ellis Island was a place in New York where millions of immigrants came to start a new life in the US. It was a place where they had to pass a medical exam and answer many questions.

John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the US and served from 1961-1963. He helped lead the country during the cold war and committed to civil rights and social justice.

The Korean war started when North Korea invaded South Korea. The United States and other countries came to South Korea's help. The war was fought to stop the spread of communism.

is for Lewis & Clark expedition

The expedition was led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clar. The purpose was to explore the western part of the US and find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. It helped expand the country's knowledge of the land and its people.

is for Manifest Destiny

It was the idea that the country's destiny, or fate expands its territory across North America. Americans believe they had the right to settle and control land from the Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean. This idea was used to support the expansion of the US even if it meant taking land from Native American tribes.
is for New Deal

The New deal were series of programs and rules put into place by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. They were meant to help people who struggled during the great depression. It helped the country recover from the great depression and protected the rights of workers.

is for Oregon Trail

The Oregon trail went from the Midwest to the West coast of the US. People traveled on the trail in wagons, on foot, and on horsebacks. Many people took it to start a new life in the west, despite the challenges and struggles.

is for Progressive Era

It was a time in place when people wanted to make changes to society and government to make things better. People worked to improve working conditions, child labor laws, and women's rights.
