In the ancient times, when people used to believe in the Twelve Olympians, there were 2 brothers, Prometheus  and Epimetheus.

Prometheus and Epimetheus were Titans but "plegded" their loyalty to Zeus and the Olympians.  Zeus rewarded them for their loyalty and gave them the job of creating the first creatures to live on Earth.

Epimetheus formed the animals and gave each a special skill and form of protection. Prometheus took his time making man, and was left with no forms of protection since Epimetheus had already given them all away.

Prometheus knew man needed protection, so he asked Zeus if he could give him fire, Zeus refused since he said that Fire is only for gods.

Prometheus ignored Zeus and gave fire to man anyway.

For this, Zeus punished Prometheus. He tied him with chains to a rock far away in the Caucasus Mountains were nobody would find him. Every day Zeus would send an eagle to feast upon Prometheus liver, which grew back every day so that Prometheus would have to endure this torture daily until Hercules found Prometheus, killed the eagle and let Prometheus go.

Though this torture wasn't enough, so Zeus thought that humans should also be punished. So, he and the gods created a beautiful woman named Pandora and sent her down to earth to be Epimitheus wife. Even Prometheus warned him of Zeus trickery and told him to not accept gifts from gods, he was taken with her beauty and wanted to marry her anyway.

When they got married Zeus gave Pandora a box as a wedding gift but, told her to never open it.

When Epimetheus left though, Pandora was so curious that she opened it, but, when she opened it, all the evil of the world came out.
