It was dark. It was scary. Piplup had no where
else to go. Piplup shivered with the cold. A
Sneasel scampered past. It had happened so
quickly, like it was nothing. Moments ago, Piplup
was made to be abandoned by Dawn. Piplup
curled her fists up as she thought of Ash-- the
one who decided it.
Piplup wandered through the forest of Illex, who
got stuck already. Piplup was tired of walking--
and thinking. There was an illuminous tree with
a shine of light dawning on it in the distance.
Piplup crawled under it and rested. The first
night of Piplup without Dawn.

Chapter 1
Mischievous Munchlax
Piplup awoke feeling refreshed. For a moment, she forgot about the
incident yesterday. Piplup was unsure of where she was.
“Wh-where… am I?”Piplup got confused, but tried to focus. Today
was a lovely, sunny day, and nothing was going to ruin it.
“Oh well. I guess I’d better find Dawn and…”Piplup froze, as she
remembered that there was no more Dawn. There was no more
Ash. There was no more Pikachu… Not even all the other Pokémon!
“Hey! SOMEONE HELP ME!!”Piplup screeched, determined that
someone would hear her and rescue her, like Dawn finding out that
she’d gone missing. But no one came. Piplup grew anxious and
eager to know what happened.
Meanwhile…
Ash, Pikachu, and Dawn where trailing across their path. Dawn
suddenly remembered that event of yesterday— the incident with
Piplup. Ash spoke, just to prep things up a little for his next gym
battle.

“Hey, Dawn! What is it? Is this about Piplup? …Don’t worry about her.
She’s fine. All she needs is a break. It’s OK, Dawn. I know how you
feel. But shouldn’t you think about your contests for now? Me too!!
I’m already imagining me getting that next gym badge! Cant you
imagine for when YOU get your ribbon, too?!”Ash was getting excited,
too hyper that Brock had to calm him down.

“Ash… Don’t take it too seriously. We’re almost there. You can do your
little ‘gym badge winner’ introduction thing when we get there. OK?
Just don’t get too excited NOW…” Eased Brock. Dawn stared at the
ground and re-thought of what Ash had said: “She’s fine” and “think
about your contests for now?” they rang in her head like it was the
right decision, but inside her she knew that he was wrong.
Later on…
Piplup cast the whole scene into her head. She tried to think of how
she had been wrong. What made her deserve to be abandoned.
It was a regularly normal day, Dawn thinking about her contests and
Piplup thinking about her achieving them. Dawn was getting nervous
when it was her turn on the stage, as this was her first time in a
contest. She looked eagerly at her Pokéball which contained Piplup.
Piplup remembered that she was dancing and prancing in her Pokéball.

Dawn ran out to the centre and threw out her Pokéball—hearts and
patterns shot out as Piplup smiled and gleefully made a perfect
entrance. Dawns’ opponent, George, had already flung out his
Pokéball, containing his prized and beloved Munchlax, who grinned as
he jumped out of his Pokéball. Musical notes shot out and vanished
into the air.
Piplup gulped as she remembered this Pokémon eats ALOT. Piplup got
frightened, since in her eyes Munchlax was a towering enemy giving
her a nasty grin like he was about to kill her. Piplup shivered—then
leaped up, even more frightened when Dawn asked her if she was OK.
Piplup knew that she wasn’t but continued since she didn’t want to
displease her trainer, her beloved friend Dawn. Georges’ go was first,
so Munchlax used body-slam. Piplup screeched and tried to dodge, but
fell down, hurt and sore. Piplup couldn’t move, and was tired and
weak already.

George grinned and so did his Munchlax. Piplup knew that she was
going to lose but didn’t give in yet. Not yet… Piplup had an idea. She’d
throw a bubble beam, then jump up and use a nice, strong peck, with
all of her remaining strength. Dawn commanded Piplup to use water
gun, but Piplup ignored Dawn and went with her plan. She used a
quick bubble beam at the Munchlax, perfect hit, then jumped up and
flew, swirling around as Piplup was creating her peck move. Piplup did
not know then, that she had just learnt drill peck. Dawn knew, so
congratulated Piplup. Piplup remembered that she smiled and looked
bravely at Munchlax. Munchlax struggled, struggled to get up and
then… K-O! Piplup had won, and ran up to Dawn to jump on her, but
Dawn went aside and didn’t look happy. If Piplup had remembered
what Dawn said, she probably said:
“PIPLUP!! How could you? You disobeyed me! I know that you were
doing it because you knew you had to, but… You must listen to your
trainer, and I will listen to you!!”Suddenly, Dawn turned around and
sulked. In Dawns’ head, she was worrying about how bad a trainer she
was. Ash came and sat beside her, trying to comfort her.

“Look, Dawn… I know that you’re angry about what Piplup has done.
But, hey… You DID win the first match after all, right? You’re on the
second round! Congratulations to you and your Piplup!” Ash started to
get jumpy, so Brock gave Ash the ‘glare’.
That evening, on that day, Dawn finally made her decision; she’d stop
worrying about Piplup by letting her stay in the wild for some time.
She talked about it to Ash, and he nodded solemnly at Piplup. Piplup
grew paler and paler by every word they spoke. She knew it. It was
time. Piplup remembered that she ran away crying, running off into
Illex forest, without realising from the fuzz of her tears. Ash and Dawn
noticed Piplup, and attempted to run towards Piplup and tell her that
they wont abandon her. Piplup did not know, so ran away, hoping for
a better life… which started in Illex forest.

That was all of what Piplup could remember. Piplup padded to an Oran
tree. She plucked one berry, and it fell. Piplup picked up the berry and
took a bite into it. They were the best berries that she had ever tasted.
Maybe she would stay around for a while, gathering things for her new
life, her new journey.
