"When is School going to start?" Asked Andy.
(He loved school a lot)
"In 3 weeks," replied his mother cheerfully.
"Ah man, I really want school to begin
right now!" Cried Andy.
His mother noticed the disappointed look on
Andy's face and said, "Come down stairs for
breakfast soon," She walked out the door to
the kitchen.
"Alright," Andy agreed.

Andy took a seat down at his desk in the
corner, near the window.
Andy got out a piece of parchment to write
on.
The light from the window glared into the
room, there was light filling it up more and
more.
He wrote, Dear Maddie, it's taking
forever for Summer to be over. See you
on Monday. It will be fun to go to the
water park together.
Your
friend,
Andy

Next Andy went downstairs and out the door to
put the letter in his mailbox.
Finally he ran back into the kitchen for
breakfast.
His mother was reading her favorite novel:
The Mystery of Dogwood Cross.
"Uh, mom? Hello?" Andy asked waving a hand
in front of her face.
(It wasn't easy when her book was jammed
really close to it.)
"Y-Yes, sweaty?" His mother was startled
when he had erupted her silent reading.

Since Andy's mother seemed so interested in
her book he replied, "Why don't you go up to
your room and read, so it's quiet while I make
myself some breakfast?"
His mother looked shocked.
Andy usually wanted to sit and eat with his
mother and talk, but he had a feeling that a
friend was going to visit.
Andy got out supplies of all sorts for a project
he and his friend would do.
As he gathered food items and baking items a
face followed by a waving hand shot up

from the window.
"Hey, And, ready for our project?" The child
asked, using Andy's not so well nickname.
(They were still working on them.)
"You got it Joe, I'll let you in one minute,"
Andy agreed opening the window latch.
As the boy climbed into the kitchen.
The boy's name was Josh and he didn't have
as bad a nickname as Andy's.
"So, is everything ready?" Josh continued
looking around at the kitchen table.
"Yep, I think I have everything we need,"

Andy exclaimed checking all the supplies.
"Let's check, just in case," Josh advised.
"Great idea, here's the list of things we need,"
Andy said, handing Josh the white paper.
"Thanks," Josh read the list and explained,
"Anyway the first thing we need to have is
baking soda. Do we have that?"
"Yes, we have that one, so you can check that
one off," Andy observed holding the item up.

Josh checked off, baking soda with a pen from
his pocket.
"Next we need, a blender, one pot and one
pan, baking powder, a bowl, knife, vanilla,
sugar, wiper and that's it. Got that all?" Josh
said looking at the list then the table,
repeatedly.
"I-I think so, but next time try to slow down
a little," Andy protested.
"Okay, sorry," Josh chuckled, checking off the
rest of the food.

After they had both finished checking over
everything, they started to put together their
little "project."
First they added to the big, bright, orange
bowl, the vanilla followed by some baking
powder.
"Got number one done," Andy pointed at the
list, ANOTHER list.
Josh picked it up and checked off number one.

When they finished putting it all together, A
girl came in from the front door.
She seemed to be a little upset.
Andy knew who she was and had
no idea why she was upset.
"Hey, Maddie, why so upset?" Andy asked.
"Well, you see Add, the day we go to the
water park has been canceled! We can't go at
all now! I'm so sorry!" Maddie protested
panicking.
"Oh, that's okay, anyway, (sigh) you made up
a new nickname for me and since I love

math and adding it fits in well. Joe and I are
just testing a "project," want to help?" Andy
continued doubtfully.
"Uh, sure." Maddie agreed.
They mixed and stirred adding more and more
ingredients to the bowl.
Finally, they finished.
What they had made was a purple looking
liquid.
They pored it into a glass bottle.

"So, what does it do?" Josh asked shaking the
potion.
Andy glared back at him and snickered, "Oh
this, it makes you better at math, all you have
to do is drink it."
"But how to we know it works?" Maddie
observed closely.
We test it of course." Andy responded taking
a big step backwards.
Maddie did the same.
"Looks like we have our volunteer." Andy
laughed.
