Sheena the young porcupine sobbed slowly to herself
as she walked to the end of the forest. There was no
one to play with. Tuni the deer and Pinky the rabbit all
wanted to play with her but alas they could not. For
every Sunday while chasing each other Sheena would
run towards her young friends Tuni and Pinky to catch
them and they would dodge her and get behind her
back. As soon as Sheena would turn around some
quills would detach themselves from her body and
pierce the skin of her young friends. Bleeding and
crying the deer and rabbit would go home
discontinuing the game.

Sheena was new to the green forest, in the brown forest
where Sheena had lived before she had played with a
number of young porcupines but after the death of her
father Sheena and her mother had shifted to the green
forest to live with her grandparents. The other
porcupines were not very friendly in this forest and did
not welcome her ,moreover Sheena had taken a fancy to
Tuni and Pinky and wanted to play with them.Sheena
sighed to herself as she reached the end of the forest
and sat down under a tree. Gradually she went off to
sleep.

A sound suddenly awakened her and Sheena saw a
vixen creeping stealthily towards a house nearby. It was
still dark and dawn was about to break but Sheena could
clearly see the vixen plucking red flowers and putting
them in a basket. Suddenly she remembered seeing an
old hippo last evening shuffling across the garden and
watering a bed full of red flowers. She had also heard
the old hippo say to herself, “Someone is stealing my
flowers, my eyesight is weak and so is my hearing
ability how can I catch the thief.” The hippo had looked
very helpless.

Infuriated Sheena stood up, drew in a deep breath
charging towards the vixen she turned round. Several
knife like quills detached themselves from her body and
jabbed the vixen’s flesh. Caught completely unaware at
first and then howling in pain as her body started
bleeding the vixen dropped the basket full of flowers, on
the ground.
