By: Lobna Shash

Once upon a time, there was
a tiny caterpillar. She felt
weak and lonely, she looked
around, everything appeared
gigantic and scary, the
flowers stems looked like
they were hairy monsters,
the green grass looked like
it was high heaving ghosts.

The birds looked like
they were winged
dragons dropping
down from their
skyscrapers of high
brown bodies
and scary messy
green heads.

She looked at herself in the reflection of a
water drop that looked as an enormous ocean.
She found herself featureless, dull,
slow and putting that all together; she
realized she was the "unworthy nothing in the
world of monsters".
She thought with despair " what's the point?,
I don't belong to this world".

"I know no other world either, if I walk for
years I won't reach this other world, and if I do,
it'll probably be like this world, and I shall never
find the world to which I belong, and if I do find
it, most probably it will be a featureless, dull
world just like myself and I won't live in that
either".
Tired from thinking, drained from frustration
and hopeless as she was; she felt a cold thrill
shivering her tiny existence.

She weaved herself a
coat, she made sure that
it covers her all up so
she sees no one and no
one sees her.
She drowned in her own
sorrows. Her own fears
designed a daily
nightmare that seemed
so authentic and logic in
her dark coat.

A strange day came when she
didn't understand what was
going on, bright light beams
caressed her complexion.
Despite of her coat, an
awkward overwhelming
feeling whirled around her
and compelled her to dance!
She found herself
unconsciously dropping her
coat, and in a glance she was
released, reborn and
revitalized.

She has never felt that fresh nor
has she felt that dynamic, she
revolved around herself and to her
happiest surprise ever; she found
she had the most glamorous and
colorful vibrant wings anyone could
have fantasized. She flipped
flopped them in a flirty and joyful
way, and for the second time she
was happily surprised to see her
wings lifting her up and up and up
till she found herself above all her
fears.

She saw the flowers;
only this time she saw
the charming petals
with the dew drops
makeup blushing their
cheeks. She saw the
green grass; only this
time she saw it as a
royal carpet beyond the
flower princesses feet.
