A unicorn prances by, its shiny pink mane glowing
softly in the morning sun. The brightness of the
green grass beneath me feels like a soft green pillow.
The unicorn stops a few feet away from me, so close
I can feel its breath on my face. It utters one word
and runs frantically away. "Soon." I spiral into
darkness.
As I awaken all I see is a bright white light...
everywhere. I vaguely wonder if I was blind.
Suddenly an object darts into my field of vision. It
looks... squishy. I hear a voice. Great, now I'm
delusional and hearing things. I focus on the voice.

"Your name is now Shelly and you are my turtle. I
will keep you in a box as my little shelly!" wait-
what? I shook my head.
"wh-who are you?" The silence that followed was
deafening to the point where I began to consider
if it had ever existed at all. Suddenly the voice
was back and I almost wished it had been in my
head. "Excuse me for not introducing myself! My
name is Tod but you can call me Tod. Tell me
Shelly, do you know what a cell is?" I consider the
situation and whether or not to respond. This was
a strange dream indeed.

I remembered something about cells from my
science class.... "Aren't they like the brick walls
that make up living things?" "No silly! living
things aren't made of bricks! a cell is not a
chunk of clay at all!" I tune out of what he's
saying, its a dream after all. What is this?
When will I ever wake up? I stare blankly at
the blueish squishy object in front of me. I had
never really had dreams like this before... it
felt so real! Almost like I really was in a
strange white room with a crazed lunatic of a
cell. I brushed the thought off... it was
impossible.

Suddenly with a flash the room around me
changed! Bewildered I looked around to
discover that I was in a cell itself.... I vaguely
recognized it as a plant cell from science class. I
now regret dozing off in science class...
Panicked I tried everything I could think of to
wake from this terrible nightmare, ranging from
pinching myself to throwing myself at the
strange, pulsing blue walls of the cell I somehow
found myself in.
verything around me was moving, pulsing,
squirting, sucking, flying, it reminded me of a
big clock my grandfather had given me long
ago.

"What is this?!? Where am I??" I looked around
frantically, now desperate to see the familiar
squishy object Tod, no matter how eccentric he
may be.
"You are inside of a cell my dear Shelly, as I
just explained this is the cell maze! To pass
through and get home, first you must complete
some tasks. I doubt you can though..." The
voice paused thoughtfully. "Perhaps you would
like to just give up now and become my little
box Shelly? Save yourself the trouble? It would
be so much easier..."

"No you lunatic! Get me out of here!" I growl
in frustration, desperate for an escape from
this increasingly maniacal dream.
"Very well then, don't say I didn't offer! Now
then, the process of leaving this place is
simple. You get to tour this cell, and if you give
me all the right answers you get to leave."
And with that the tour began.

Looking around I waited impatiently, but
nothing happened.
All of a sudden a giant knife came out of
nowhere and bore down on the green thing
before me, slicing it like butter on a hot
summer's day! Bewildered I looked around for
the source of the knife but it disappeared just
as fast as it had came.
Before I could react, my body started moving
against my will, I was walking outside of the
cell! I had absolutely no control over my
actions now. What was happening?!?!

I screamed for help but nothing came out but
a hoarse whisper. For the first time in the
whole night I felt true fear, was it really a
dream? My breath quickened. Scolding myself
for believing in such nonsense I focused on
where I was going, what I was looking at.
I kept walking outside the now half cell until I
was looking right at the edge, then I stopped.
All I could see now was a sort of jelly fish like
wall, with intertwined, stringy, pulsing webs of
life. It was a little creepy.

Out of nowhere a small floating orb floated
over to the cell wall, then passed gracefully
through a small tube in the seemingly endless
wall. I watched fascinated as it whirred around
through the cell and eventually left out another
tube. I heard the voice again, and for once I
was grateful to see; or hear rather; something
familiar in this ever confusing place. I
remembered that the cell wall was meant to
keep out viruses and only let in the good
things. I didn't even know I knew that!

"Now, can you tell me what that little squishy
was?" Tod's voice had taken on a more serious
tone. I was in a plant cell.. What was it again
that Mrs.Teashar had taught us? Then it
clicked.
"Its protein?"
"And what does it do?"
"Protein powers the cell?"
"Correct." Tod's voice now sounded a little sad,
he didn't want his Shelly to go.
