I LIKE SOCKS
This is me, my name is Stella and i live in a big house with my carers Karen and
Andrew. Yes! that's right i am a talking dog. This is not as strange as you might think.
Dogs talk all the time it's just that some people don't know how to listen. Even though we
don't speak the same way as you, if you look carefully you can learn to understand and speak
"dog" like me.
When i was a puppy i went to school where i learned good manners and how to play
nicely with other dogs. I now have lots of friends and can run fast, walk slow, jump
high, crawl low, climb tall and at the end of a busy day i like to curl up small. This story is
about how by chance i found out that i like socks.

It was a rainy, wet and windy day. When i arrived at school Peter my teacher said
that the grass was too wet to practice running fast and jumping high so he had decided
to teach me something new. Today i was going to learn how to use my nose by playing a
treasure hunt game. He explained that on the ground inside a big square full of long
grass were lots of smelly toys and by using my nose i was to sniff and search to find
them.
I was so excited that as soon as the signal was given i went to work straight away.
Although it was the first time i had played the game i was told that i was a clever girl
because i had soon found them all. We played the game again and again, it was so much
fun. All too soon the lesson was over and it was time to go home. But there was one
piece of treasure i liked most of all, a big smelly sock. I had never seen one before and
loved it so much i wanted to keep it. Karen asked me to put it down and she gave it
back to the teacher, "that's a good girl" she said and gave me a hug.

The following day i went upstairs to say good morning and found not just one but a
mountain of socks laying on the bed, what a wonderful smell! With one big jump i
landed on top of them and started to play.
Now every morning before breakfast, Karen lets me play the treasure hunt game.
I use my nose to search and collect all the smelly socks i can find and put them in the
basket ready for her to wash.
My name is Stella, i am a dog and i like socks.
