The story begins in an unknown place 

called the Glade.   Thomas wakes up 

surrounded by boys of different ages.   He 

has no memory of who they are or how 

they got there.   He soon finds out that 

the Glad is surrounded by a dangerous 

puzzle called the Maze. 

Thomas: Main character, enters the Glade through        

the Box

Alby: Person in Charge

Newt: Second in command

Chuck: Thomas's first friend

Minho: Lead Runner

Teresa: Last person to enter the Glade

Everyday, Minho, Thomas, and the 

other runners go out into the maze 

and try to find an escape.   Every 

night the walls of the maze 

change, making it crucial that they 

run everyday and make maps 

when they return to the Glade.

Grievers are found throughout the Maze.  

The Gladers think they were put in the 

Maze by the Creators. Grievers are most 

active at night.   The Runners never 

know when they are going to come 

across one.   A sting from a Griever can 

be fatal.
