
Halloween
Halloween is a tradition that happens every year on the last day of October. People dress up and go trick - or - treating. They stop by houses and collect candy. Every family does something different with their candy. I donate half to the Army!

Valentines Day
On Valentine’s Day, people usually give presents and cards to each other. It includes a lot of love. It happens in the winter in February. You can give any kind of gift you want!

Saint Patrick’s Day
On Saint Patrick’s Day, there is a myth that if you don’t wear green on this day, tiny humans called leprechauns will pinch you. Also, it is said that they hide gold at the end of the rainbow. People make traps to try and catch them. It is a lot about luck and that is why the symbol is a 4 - leafed clover.

Christmas
Christmas is where a guy named Santa Claus, or Santa for short comes to peoples homes and is said to give out gifts and ride through the sky in a sled pulled by reindeer. People put Christmas trees out. That is where you will find presents. You decorate the tree with ornaments. They are things that can be hooked on the tree. It is also said Santa will give you coal as a present if you don’t behave.

Your birthday!
There are many traditions people could do to celebrate somebody’s birthday. There is having a birthday party, and going somewhere, birthday gifts, and more! People’s birthdays happen once a year on the day they were born. That’s why it is called a birthday, or day of birth!

CHINESE NEW YEAR
Chinese New Year is when you clean out bad luck and welcome the good luck for the next year. People get out a big, but of course fake dragon with sticks coming out for people to hold them and celebrate. Chinese New Year is not actually the real New Year.

DIWALI
Diwali is from the Indian culture. It celebrates light over dark, knowledge over ignorance, and life over death. It happens in between October and November. People throw colorful powders at each other to celebrate. People light lamps called a diya shown below.

Fourth of July
The 4th of July is on, you guessed it! The fourth day of July. It is also known as Independence Day, or when the Declaration of Independence was signed. This holiday only exists in the United States of America, because the day was a happy day in America so big, it became a national holiday in the US!
