You can't come to Italy without visiting Rome, its capital city, and admiring its main icon: the Colosseum.
It is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, just east of the Roman Forum. It is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built, and is still the largest standing amphitheatre in the world, despite its age.

The Sistine Chapel is a chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the pope's official residence in Vatican City. Originally known as the Cappella Magna ('Great Chapel'), the chapel takes its name from Pope Sixtus IV, who had it built between 1473 and 1481. Since that time, the chapel has served as a place of both religious and functionary papal activity. Today, it is the site of the papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected. The fame of the Sistine Chapel lies mainly in the frescoes that decorate the interior, most particularly the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment, both by Michelangelo.
The cathedral of Milan, better known as Duomo of Milan, is an impressive church that has five naves, one central and four lateral, with about forty pillars, also is crossed by a transept followed by the choir and the apse. The central nave has a height of 45 meters and its construction was done in brick covered with marble.
Did you know that the Duomo in Milan is one of the largest Catholic cathedrals in the world? The Cathedral of Milan has 157 meters in length, 11,700 m2 and with a capacity for more than 40,000 people.
Built very close to the Roman crossing, the Ponte Vecchio, or Old Bridge, was the only bridge across the Arno in Florence until 1218. The current bridge was rebuilt after a flood in 1345. During World War II it was the only bridge across the Arno that the fleeing Germans did not destroy. Instead they blocked access by demolishing the medieval buildings on each side. On November 4, 1966, the bridge miraculously withstood the tremendous weight of water and silt when the Arno once again burst its banks.Benvenuto Cellini, a 16 century goldsmith, is honoured with a bust on the bridge. By night, the wooden shutters of the shops create a look like suitcases and wooden chests, making it a very suggestive route to take for an evening passeggiata, or stroll. Ponte Vecchio is a very romantic spot in Florence, with its great views over the river and of the bridge itself.
Piazza San Marco , often known in English as St Mark's Square, is the principal public square of Venice, Italy, where it is generally known just as la Piazza ("the Square"). Almost all the other urban spaces in the city (except the Piazzetta and the Piazzale Roma) are called campi ("fields"). The Piazzetta ("little Piazza/Square") is an extension of the Piazza towards San Marco basin in its southeast corner (see plan). The two spaces together form the social, religious and political centre of Venice and are referred to together.
A remark usually attributed (though without proof) to Napoleon calls the Piazza San Marco "the drawing room of Europe".
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a building in Pisa, Italy. It is a bell tower. The circular bell tower stands next to Pisa’s cathedral. Commonly known outside Transylvania as Dracula's Castle, it is marketed as the home of the title character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. The castle is now a museum dedicated to displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.

Early Christian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki The provincial capital and port of Thessaloniki, founded in 315 BC, was one of the first bases for the spread of Christianity. Among his monuments there are churches, some built on the plan of the Greek cross and others on the three-aisled basilica. Built over a long period, from the 4th to the 15th century, they had a significant influence on the Byzantine world. The mosaics of the rotunda, Saint Demetrius and Saint David are among the great masterpieces of early Christian art.
