I got chosen by Mrs. Stacy and Mr. Steve, who are scientists that invite people from my state, NC to explore different biomes and places around the world, and I was invited to the Taiga. “ But where is the Taiga!” I exclaimed when I got invited.
“The Taiga is in the cold regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It is a place with alot of trees, wild life, and a lot of fun to be had. The word Taiga also comes from a Russian word.” said Mrs.Stacy. When I got home I started to pack. Mr. Steve told me to pack a lot of food. I ignored him because you can find food pretty easily in the Taiga. Right? Anyways, I was so excited I could burst! I packed some stuff like water, clothes and a granola bar. We got into the helicopter and I said, “ Here we go!” A few seconds later I heard “ dun, dun, dun,”. Coming from the helicopter propeller.
Be patient because it’s going to take a while to get to the Taiga,” said Mrs. Stacy.
We are landing in the Taiga biome and I don't feel so good. My head is spinning and my stomach is upside down. “ I might be sick,” said Sofia once they landed.
“You'll be fine!”exclaimed Mr. Steve. Once we arrive I see this weird looking owl that is apparently called the True Owl. A few hours after exploring I start to starve. “ Did any of you possibly pack any food?” I said waiting to get punished for not bringing any food except a granola bar.
“ No, that was your job. Wasn’t it?” Mrs. Stacy said worriedly. I remained silent while my cheeks were as red as cherries of embarrassment. I admit my mistake to them. Mr. Steve said that I should have listened to him and packed more food. “ I know, I know.” I said, disappointed in myself.
“ Most people have to eat 3-5 pounds of food everyday, Sofia!” exclaimed Mrs. Stacy. When we were exploring we saw a bird as tall as a skyscraper! It was five feet tall. It was called the Majestic Whooping Crane. Besides from the food I was doing ok.
“ Is it just me that’s starving?” said Mrs. Stacy.
“Nope, not just you,” I said. “Grumble!” my stomach said as loud as a siren. “ Are there any foods we can look for?” I asked.
“Yes there are fruits and berries here like raspberries, cloudberries, and cranberries.” said Mrs. Stacy. We started to look for the fruits and berries. After a couple of hours we came upon a cloudberry.” Eww!” I said disgustedly. It looked like a raspberry but orange and bumpy and yucky! Mr. Steve and Mrs. Stacy ate one and said it was delicious. I didn’t believe them, until I ate one because I was so hungry. “ This is…… delicious!” I exclaimed.
“I told you,” Mr. Steve said with a smile on his face. Anyway we are all feeling better now and I remember Mr. Steve says that the Taiga provides clean and fresh water. We got to a river that apparently had fresh water. I did drink it though because so far I have learned to listen to my elders. Later on we found a spot that looked good for a campsite and unpacked. “So what did you pack?” Mrs. Stacy asked me.
“Nothing much,” I said. Suddenly Mr.Steve and Mrs.Stacy unpacks a tent, some extra clothes, a compass and a held hand watch. “Good night,” I said while yawning.
“Goodnight,” Mr.Steve and Mrs.Stacy said. I was still so so so so hungry but I couldn’t say that after all they had done.
