In tutte le leggende c'è un po' d'amore e Napoli nasce proprio dalla leggenda del sentimento tra Partenope e Cimone. Partenope era una dolce ragazza dai grandi occhi neri, dalla bocca rossa e carnosa e dalla bianca carnagione. Durante le giornate, le piaceva vedere su un'altissima roccia e, guardando le onde, era solita sognare mondi lontani. Ben presto, però, l'incontro con Cimone cambiò i suoi sogni ei suoi pensieri. 

In all legends there is a bit of love and Naples was born precisely from the legend of the feeling between Partenope and Cimone. Partenope was a sweet girl with big black eyes, a red, plump mouth and a white complexion. During the days, she liked to see on a very high rock and, looking at the waves, she used to dream of distant worlds. Soon, however, the meeting with Cimone changed his dreams and thoughts.

Ed infatti, in una notte di estate, Cimone parla alla sua amata: “Partenope, vuoi venire con me?” - chiede Cimone e Partenope risponde: “Si amore, partiamo.” “Tuo padre non vuole che ci sposiamo perché sei la promossa sposa di Eumeo.” Risponde Cimone, e continua dicendo: “Mia cara, ma tu sei innamorata di Eumeo?” No Cimone, amore mio, io amo te." - risponde l'amata "Non possiamo separarci, se così fosse la nostra vita sarà un vero e proprio incubo! Non possiamo stare lontani l'uno dall'altro!"

During a summer night, Cimone talked to her and asked: «Parthenope, do you want to come with me?» She answered: «Yes, let's go away together.»

Cimone responded: «But your father does not approve our marriage. He wants you to marry Eumeo. Are you in love with Eumeo?»

Parthenope answered: «No, I love you! We can't stay away from eachother, it would be a nightmare if we didn't stay together.»

“Vuoi partire con me, Partenope?” Esclama Cimone emozionato dalle parole dell'amata e con voce dolce e armoniosa Partenope gli risponde “Sì''

“Sei sicura? Non soffrirai per l'assenza di tuo padre, per la lontananza dalle tue sorelle? Non potrai più vedere le tue amiche, non vivrai più a casa tua!

Vuoi davvero perdere tutto questo per restare con me? "

“Sì Cimone, io sono convinta della mia decisione”, risponde.

So, Cimone, excited because of her words, asked her again: «Partenope, do you want to come with me?» Partenope said yes, again.

Cimone wanted her to be certain of this decision, so he asked: «Are you sure? Won't you miss your father and sisters? You won't see your friends again, you won't live at your house. Are you sure you want to lose all of it to be with me?»

Partenope answered: «Yes, Cimone, I'm sure.»

“Dunque partiremo, mia dolce metà, dovemo fare un viaggio lungo e penoso, su un mare traditore, non sappiamo ancora dove sbarcheremo, sappiamo solo che non ritorneremo. Partiremo e andremo lontano, in luoghi dove è sempre inverno, dove il sole è nascosto dietro le nuvole…Non ci sono fiori, giardini, né templi” e mentre Cimone termina il suo monologo Partenope, con occhi pieni d'amore, esclama

“Io ti amo, partiamo ora”. 

Cimone told her: «Alright! We'll travel, my love, but have to know that our journey will be long and dangerous. We'll go to a distant world, we won't return here. There won't be flowers, gardens or temples.”

Cimone ended his speech, and Partenope looked at him expressing all of her love with her eyes. She said: “That's fine! I love you, let's go now!”
