Project "Discover Yourself With STEM" participants visited the Museum of inventions. There they saw many interesting exhibits.

While the students of the project continued their museum tour, they saw the "Small but important inventions" section.

The Band-Aid was invented in 1920 by Earle Dickson for his wife, Josephine, who frequently cut and burned herself while cooking in Highland Park, New Jersey.

The interesting story of how Band-Aid was invented made them smile.

In this photo from 1950, a driver shows the coffee machine he has installed in his car. According to the designer of the product, this design, which has enough water capacity for 3 cups of coffee, can also be used to make soup, boil eggs, and heat water for shaving.

Ataş ya da tutturgaç, 1900 yılında Norveçli Johann Vaaler tarafından icat edilmiştir . Kağıtları büyütebilmek için, iç içe geçmiş iki halkalı metal bir telden ibaret olan tasarım günümüze kadar hemen hemen hiç değişmemiştir. Ataş bulunmadan önce kâğıtlar iğnelenerek bir arada tutuluyordu.

Ataş veya tutturucu, 1900 yılında Norveçli Johann Vaaler tarafından icat edildi. Kağıtları sıkı bir şekilde tutmak için birbirine kenetlenen iki halka oluşturan metal telden oluşan tasarım, günümüze kadar neredeyse hiç değişmeden kaldı. Ataç icat edilmeden önce kağıtlar iğnelenerek bir arada tutuluyordu.

Her incelememizde daha da heyecanlanıyor yeni bilgiler öğrenmeye devam ediyorduk.

The first examples of scissor-like tools are found in the Bronze Age. Later, in parallel with the improvements in production techniques, scissors began to be made of more durable materials such as stainless steel. Leonardo da Vinci also made important studies on scissors. We can accept Robert Hinchliffe as the father of modern scissors.

Makas benzeri aletlerin ilk örneklerine Tunç Çağı'nda rastlanmaktadır. Üretim tekniklerindeki gelişmelere paralel olarak makaslar paslanmaz çelik gibi daha dayanıklı malzemelerden yapılmaya başlandı. Leonardo da Vinci de makas konusunda önemli çalışmalar yaptı. Robert Hinchliffe'i modern makasın babası olarak kabul edebiliriz.

We have seen so many wonderful inventions. In one room there were a lot of writing instruments. Among them, there was a fountain pen invented by the Romanian Petrache Poenaru.

In 1826 he went to France and attended the École Polytechnque in Paris, where he studied geodesy and surveying. He was so busy taking notes and copying courses, that he invented a fountain pen that used a swan's quill as an ink reservoir. On 25 May 1827, the Manufacture Department of the French Ministry of the Interior registered Poenaru’s invention with the code number 3208 and the description "plume portable sans fin, qui s’alimente elle-meme avec de l’ancre" ("never-ending portable pen, which recharges itself with ink").

Our pleasant journey in the museum of inventions continued. After seeing the coffee machine, paper clips, band-aids, fountain pens, we saw the section where the abacus we used in the kindergarten and first grade was located. We headed there immediately.

The purpose of the Abacus, a calculating device considered the ancestor of modern calculators and computers, is to perform the four main mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The abacus, an invention of the Babylonians, has been of great importance in trade for centuries. The basis of the abacus dates back to Crete and Mycenae, and almost all of the first abacus examples also contain examples of Cretan and Mycenaean decorative art.

The project students who participated in the trip were very impressed by what they saw and learned. What they saw raised new questions and new curiosities for them. They left the museum with excitement, with brand new ideas in their minds.
