Journal of a Time Traveler- By Jiya Sara Jacob

''Mom...'' said little Emily, as she came running towards her mother, who was reading a magazine, as she sipped on her tea.
''Yes Emily! You look excited today!'' said her mother, in her usual loving tone.
''Mom... When can I time travel?'' asked Emily.
''Sweetheart, what do you mean?'' she asked, as she sipped the tea in her cup.

''Anna said that she made a time machine! And it works mom! I tried it! She put me in it, and I travelled three seconds into the future! She said that she was the first person to invent a time machine! ''
The mother, clearly knowing that her daughter was being made a joke of, but not wanting to disappoint her said, ''One day, you will darling...But right now it's bed time...''
Emily left her mother's lap, with the most innocent smile, and a slight happy giggle, leaving her mother in thought, ''Why does children have to make jokes out of each other?''
The next day, ''Emily wakes up to find a note on her bedside table, which said, ''Emily... Mommy's really sick... I'm in the hospital right now... But don't worry... Mommy will be fine and come back home soon.. Your food's in the kitchen...Love, Mom''
Emily cried, with her every breath uttering the prayer of hope that her mother will be fine.
After some time, Emily started to have a feeling of emptiness, possibly because her mother was away from her. She was terribly bored.
She aimlessly walked around the house, until she realised that all her years in the house, the grandfather's room was locked. But now, it wasn't. The door was open slight bit, which meant she could just walk in with the confidence that a room of her ancestors couldn't possibly pose a threat to her.
She opened the door, which made a loud squeak, probably because it remained shut for a long time, with almost no one entering it. For the first time, it wasn't locked, but rather, fully opened. But, at the very moment she stepped foot in it, she sneezed, which was explained by the dust.
''So, this is my grandfather's room...'' She said as she twirled around with a slight pleasure of discovering something new, but stopped all of a sudden when she saw a big... thing.. that looked very much like a watch... She stared at it for a few seconds, then, gently stroked it. ''Grandfather made this!'' she said, as she cried, for she very well wished he hadn't left her before her birth.
''I would have asked him if he was here...'' her young voice sobbed.
She walked around the room in circles, possibly feeling calm and the presence of the late grandparents, until her eyes caught the gaze of a diary, that was her grandfather's.
''Grandfather wrote this.'' She said as she sat down to read it...
She read the first couple pages, which was about his daughter, or Emily's mother...
