Long ago, a giant sea monster known as The Test Maker Worm rose out of the sea. It was said that the Test Maker Worm’s body stretched halfway around the world. That its one eye was as red as a bad grade. That its breath smelled like cafeteria milk.
Every day it moved closer to Southmayd Elementary.

The 3rd grade teacher asked the students for help. “You must pay attention to the things you learn, if slaying the worm is what you wish to do” said the teacher. “Only then will it leave for another year."
The students went pale. The students were kind, gentle, and loved by their teacher. But they feared they did not know enough to banish the worm away. “Is that the only way to save our school?” the students asked.
“It is the only way,” the teacher said.
The students knew the teacher was serious. But they weren't ready to give up yet.

The teacher sent a message to all of the classroom: The students who can banish the Test Maker Worm will get promoted to the next quest in their educational journey. The teacher was excited when all twenty-five students came forward.

But as soon as they saw how long the test was, they all ran away. The teacher was sad.
He knew the students had to study more to beat the Test Maker Worm.
There was great grief throughout the class.

On the day before the students would have to take the test, the teacher came out to the bayou.
All his life Mr. Castro wanted to be a great teacher.
He was determined to defeat the Test Maker Worm with the help of his students and save Southmayd Elementary.

Mr. Castro borrowed a small boat. He loaded a bucket full of their correct answers and good grades and rowed toward the Test Maker Worm.

At dawn, the monster awoke. It slowly opened its giant jaws in a yawn. A great flood of water rushed into its open mouth.
The boat and Mr. Castro were swept in. Mr. Castro was carried down the Test Maker Worm’s throat.
