Today was the first day of culture week atschool for Lola. She was not sure what to
think of lunch. Mrs. Meyer explained to
the class that every day this week they
would be eating something different.
Each day would be a food from a different
culture of someone in class. Today was
the first day, and it was Juans' day. Lola
never had tacos, beans and rice before.
Would she like them?
She did! But the beans were not her favorite!

Lola loved Mexican from Juan yesterday, but
today seems scary. Schnitzel is something she
has never heard of. Tiana is from Germany,
she is here with her dad who is a soldier.
Tiana was born in Germany. She told Lola
how schnitzel is her favorite! Lola isn't sure if
she will like it. But like yesterday, she is
willing to try. One bite is all Mrs. Myers is
making her eat. But wait....Lola takes a
bite....and...she likes it!!! It is just breaded
meat. The name is scary, but the food tastes
really good! That red stuff however, Lola
didn't like! But she tried it!!!

Today Lola is going to lunch and not being scared.
She is very excited. She has no clue what sushi
really is, but she isn't so worried about if it will be
good. She is going to try it again. When Lola
went to lunch, she saw all these circles on her
plate, they were rice with lettace and some meat
inside. Ken said he eats this at home all the time.
The brown sauce was very salty to Lola, but she
tried it. It was one okay, but she didn't like the
green wrapper on the outside. So instead of not
eatting, she took the green wrapper off and ate
everything else! It was good once she did that!
Mrs Myers was proud of Lola for finding a way to
enjoy her lunch.

Today was a day Lola was excited about. Her mom
has taken her to chinese before, and sweet and
sour chicken is her favorite. She assured Tiana she
would also like sweet and sour chicken. Lin was
from China, she was adopted two years ago and
her family still makes her food from China. When
they got their plates, Lola said it didn't look like the
restaurants, but, if she had learned anything this
week, it was to try it! When she did, she was
surprised! The chinese food was wonderful! Tiana
even liked it! The red sauce made the rice sweet
and yummy! Trying new food isn't as bad as Lola
thought it would be!

Today is Friday, and it is Leon's day! Leon is from
Louisiana and loves creole food. Lola doesn't know
what creole food is, but Jambalaya is on the menu
for today. It is a lot of different meats with rice
and a sauce. When Lola tries it, she thinks it is
kind of spicy, but the bread and rice help! She
asks Leon how often he eats this. Leon tells Lola
his mom makes it every month! They take all the
left over meats and add it with sausage and put it
with rice! Lola thinks she should ask her mom to
make this for her at home! She loves it!
