Chapter 1 Friday
"I don't like soccer!" I repeated for the 100th time. "I know, but yesterday they had the match for the World Cup!" Brianna said happily. "I - don't - care!" I growled. "And Argentina won!" Brianna said with glee. "Yeah, right." I said. "Don't you understand that baseball is better than soccer?" I asked. Brianna shook her head, no. "Why do you like baseball anyways?" Brianna asked. "Well, I can remember all the teams na-," I started, but Brianna interrupted. "Why are we talking about this anyways? C'mon, show me your math score." I knew I'd gotten a 100, but Brianna got a 98, and she was
bragging. I didn't want her to feel bad, so I lied. "I, well, um, got a 97." Brianna grinned, she was happy that she got a higher score than me. "Bye!" She called out as I walked home from school. In the distance, I could see my twin sister who was born 10 minutes before me, Kylie, walking home with her friends Rose and Evelyn. Kylie saw me and waved. I waved back and caught up to her. "See you!" Kylie called as her friends walked away. "What'd you get on your test, today?" I asked, as we walked up the front porch. "99." Kylie said glumly. "That's great!" I said. "I misclicked one! I should have gotten 100!" She cried. "Well..." We walked in the muffin smelled house, as our mom gave us a hug. "Hungry?" She asked.
"Yeah, really hungry," we both repeated. Mom set us both muffins and chocolate milk, then she left. "Mr. Jones gave us tons of homework!" Kylie moaned. "Mrs. Diana didn't give much." I answered. "Lucky you," Kylie said coolly. We finished our snack and went to do our homework. I raced after problems, and finished in less than 2 minutes. Kylie wasn't too happy about homework. I went to check tonight's dinner menu. "Meat vegetable soup with garlic and strawberry cake. Coconut water." I repeated. This was going to be a great dinner. Kylie walked out of her room looking relieved that she finally finished. Even though it was 6 o'clock, it wasn't dark outside yet. "Mom, can we go to the park?" I asked.
"And ride our bikes around the circle!" Kylie added. Mom glanced at the clock and signaled a 'yes'. We grinned at each other and went to get our bikes. "Kylie?" I asked. "What!" She snapped. "I-I think a storm is coming, a big one." I said. Big gray clouds were forming and I could hear lightning and thunder in the distance. Tiny rain droplets were starting to fall. "Ugh, why does this always happen?" Kylie said, disappointed. "Let's go." I said. Suddenly, Thunder gave a loud roar and the ground started shaking. It was an earthquake.
Chapter 2 Friday
"A-Annie!" Kylie screamed over the roar of thunder and the the cracking sound of the ground breaking. A crack separated me and Kylie. The last thing I saw was the entire house falling on me until everything went black.
Chapter 3 Monday
"Annie, Annie wake up!" I heard voices, but they didn't make any sense. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Kylie looking down at me, worried. "Where am I?" I asked, so suddenly Kylie gasped. "The earthquake," her voice was shaky. "The house nearly fell on you, and a pole saved you. You've been asleep for 2 days straight. This is the hospital. I looked around, and sure, it was all white with patients and nurses coming and going. Me and Kylie left the hospital a few minutes later to return home. Good thing it wasn't our house that fell. It was Monday and I got to miss school! But most importantly, I wanted to see
my parents. "Mom, Dad!" I cried as I lept on them. The whole afternoon was a blur of crying and laughing. I knew that I was safe, at last.
Chapter 4 Tuesday
School passed fast and me and Kylie sprinted home from hunger. After some chocolate brownies, we finished our homework and decided to go on a walk. Mom kept avoiding us for some reason. First, she wouldn't talk to us. Second, she wouldn't let us go outside without reason. And third, she kept looking out the window whenever she got the chance. "Mom, please tell us what's going on!" I pleaded, but Mom just cried and ran away. "Dad." I said firmly. "What's going on?" He took a deep breath and told us to sit down. He went to the weather app and showed us what's on there.
In big red bold letters it read, 'TORNADO WARNING IN NORTH CAROLINA ON THURSDAY, EVACUATE QUICKLY! IT IS GOING TO BE THE BIGGEST TORNADO IN HISTORY!' Where did we live? North carolina.
Chapter 5 Wednesday
Kylie and I didn't go to school on wednesday. Instead, we went to the grocery store and bought all kinds of food, water, gadgets, and moving stuff. Mom ordered 4 plain tickets and we were leaving in the afternoon. We filled up our car's gas tank and cleared our whole house. We didn't need to be told, we were moving. Everytime, I thought of that, tears were in my eyes. We'd been in NC for 5 years straight. Me and Kylie were in 4th grade. We were leaving Clearwater Elementary school. I didn't want to know where we were going. No changing it, we were leaving.
