Through this project, our wish as teachers was to bring our students closer to a seemingly difficult, yet beautiful subject: mathematics. We wanted to help them understand, through practical activities and teamwork, that mathematics and mostly geometry is beyond the textbooks. It is in the real world, surrounding us at every step we take.

First of all, we as teachers had an online meeting during which we discussed the activities that we were going to do during this project.

Next, the students completed a Pre-Test created in Kahoot!. The role of this Pre-Test was to discover their initial knowledge regarding quadrilaterals at the beginning of this project.

Our first activity was to create a logo and a poster of the project. Each partner school had to come up with their own idea and create it in Canva.

Posters

After generating a poll, the official logo and poster were chosen as follows:

For the second activity, the students had to find trapezoid-shaped objects around them. These were the results:

Trapezoid shapes

For the third activity, the students had to find parallelogram and rhombus shapes in traditional ethnic elements

Parallelogram and rhombus shapes

For the fourth activity, each teacher, together with their students, came up with little stories about squares and rectangles associated with everyday objects that have these shapes.

For the fifth activity, the students learnt about the deltoid as a quadrilateral through a practical yet fun activity - by making a kite. The kite could be either handmade or created in Geogebra. These were the results:

At the end of our project, the students completed another test created in Kahoot! about all the activities that they did.

This project was an adventure story for both teachers and students. It taught all of us that we should pay close attention to the world around us, as we could always find hidden treasure. It was simply magical.
